Develops, implements, coordinates, trains, and provides professional consultation and technical expertise associated with system-wide environmental compliance matters. Works with internal and external stakeholders to support Orlando Health in providing a safe environment and complying with all applicable environmental compliance regulations.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
- Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of system-wide comprehensive environmental policies, procedures, and training programs to include ongoing continuous improvement of compliance programs and training methods.
- Maintains strong relationships with site and departmental leadership to support Orlando Health goals, objectives, and performance.

Assists Corporate Safety leaders and other stakeholders including, but not limited to, Environmental Services, Facilities Management, Infection Prevention, Emergency Management, and Regulatory Affairs, to develop and implement tactical strategies and activities to:

Evaluate compliance with Orlando Health policies and procedures, federal, state, and local regulations and accreditation requirements;

Support performance improvement activities; and
-
Meet key performance measures.

Assists Corporate Safety leadership with identifying trends and recommending options to reduce frequency and severity of issues related to environmental risk.
- Performs audits of Orlando Health facilities for validation and documentation of compliant operation; initiates action(s) necessary to correct any identified deviation(s) or violation(s) and prepares and submits written technical reports and documents based on findings.
- Evaluates Corporate Safety programs for adequacy, compliance, and effectiveness; assists corporate safety leadership in developing and/or improving programs.
- Prepares and submits draft written technical reports and documents for management certification prior to submission to federal, state, and local regulatory agencies as required for compliance or sustainment of environmental licenses and permits.
- Collaborates with Corporate Safety and other departments, as required, to investigate incidents and/or team member complaints concerning environmental compliance or other related fields.
- Supports and coordinates processes for collection, storage and shipment of hazardous materials and waste.
- Interacts with the various environmental regulatory agency representatives supporting inquiries and on-site visits required for maintenance of and compliance with respective agency regulations.
- Supports Orlando Health leadership, committees, departments, and work teams to serve as a resource contributing to the organization’s understanding, consideration, and response to environmental compliance issues.
- Supports the Director, Environmental Compliance with strategic planning initiatives and special projects.
- Maintains knowledge of existing and evaluates emerging federal, state and local regulations, standards, trends and best practices related to environmental compliance and sustainability; Assists with evaluation of compliance options and strategies to minimize impact(s) and cost(s) while optimizing effective control.
- Conducts investigations to identify causal factors and provide appropriate recommendations for remedial actions related to environmental impact events and excursions.
- Maintains compliance with all OSHA, U.S. DOT, U.S. EPA, and Florida DEP training requirements required for the Environmental Compliance Specialist position.
- Manages work assignments efficiently to ensure compliance with timelines and maintain work product accuracy.
- Exhibits excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions:
- Performs rotating on-call duties (24/7) to monitor and respond to calls through the Safety on-call line.
- Maintains professionalism in the department and adherence to appropriate policies and procedures of the department.
- Stays informed of evolving technology, new standards and regulations related to environmental compliance and sustainability and collaborates with leadership to develop recommendations to implement improvements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Training:
Associate’s degree in environmental or natural sciences, chemistry, biology, safety, healthcare, or closely related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Completes training in compliance with 40CFR 262.17 within six (6) months of hire or transfer into position and annually thereafter.
Licensure/Certification:
None.
Experience:
- Three (3) years of work experience in the field of Environmental Compliance, Civil Engineering, Ecology or a closely related field.
- Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
