The NM State Land Office has a Non-Emergency Telework Policy, which allows eligible employees to telework up to twenty-four (24) hours a week consistent with the agency's business needs.
As a valued State Land Office employee, you will receive a hiring bonus of forty (40) hours of leave at your start date to be used at any time. This is in addition to standard leave accrual for employees.
Why does the job exist?
The core mission of the New Mexico State Land Office (NMSLO) is to responsibly generate revenue through a wide array of leasing activities on state trust lands on behalf of public schools, universities and hospitals. This position is housed in the Royalty Management Division and the purpose of this position is to perform field audits and desk reviews of medium to large oil and gas companies based on the royalty reporting that is associated with oil, gas and other mineral production derived from state-trust land, to ensure compliance with New Mexico statutes (lease terms) and the NMSLO rules; to provide royalty remitter assistance and promote remitter knowledge; to participate in special projects as necessary in order to maximize assessment and collection of royalties and ensure the public schools, universities and hospitals are receiving their accurate share of royalty revenue. Independently or as a team member this position shall conduct audit tests of transactions to determine if the proper volumes, product values, and allowable deductions are reported by the state lessees and that proper royalties have been calculated and paid. This position shall also guide, assist, and direct other team members in the application of the procedures, and provide training to other staff members and/or industry. This position shall continually be involved in and actively contribute to all phases of the audit process (including audit selection, pre-audit, field work, documentation and post-audit) from the initial audit assignment to the completion of the final audit package.

Minimum Qualification
Two (2) years of experience in Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, Collections, Finance, and/or Budgeting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Must obtain and maintain a State of New Mexico Driving Certificate.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer to include working with computers, faxes, copiers and printers, and phone usage with extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. 25% in-state and out of state travel is required.
