Tips for Your Trade Compliance Analyst Job Search
Tailor your resume to each jurisdiction
Export control regimes vary by country and cargo type, so list the specific regulations you've worked with, EAR, ITAR, OFAC, or customs entry processes, rather than writing 'trade compliance experience.' Recruiters search for those exact terms.
Highlight HTS classification experience clearly
Harmonized Tariff Schedule classification is a core daily task most hiring managers screen for. If you've classified goods, state the product categories and volume. Vague phrasing like 'familiar with tariff codes' signals a candidate who has only read about it.
Earn a recognized trade compliance certification
The Certified Customs Specialist or Licensed Customs Broker designation signals hands-on regulatory knowledge. If you're entry-level, completing a self-study course and passing the exam before you apply gives you a concrete credential to lead your resume with.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists trade compliance analyst openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by the software they require
Many companies use trade management platforms like SAP Global Trade Services, MIC, or Descartes, and they hire people who already know their system. Targeting postings that name the tool you use shortens your ramp time and makes your application immediately relevant.
Prepare a real screening scenario for interviews
Interviewers commonly ask how you'd handle a shipment flagged on a denied-party list or a product with dual-use classification uncertainty. Walk through your actual decision process step by step, citing which agency or regulation you'd consult and how you'd document your determination.
Trade Compliance Analyst Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most trade compliance analysts?
The companies hiring the most trade compliance analysts right now include Citi, Trane Technologies, and Deutsche Bank, with the largest share of openings in New York, Florida, and Illinois, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Manufacturers, defense contractors, and large importers consistently maintain the highest volume of open roles.
How many trade compliance analyst jobs are remote?
About 35% of trade compliance analyst openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with remote work most common in sanctions screening, export control advisory, and classification review roles that don't require physical access to a warehouse or port facility. On-site roles are more typical when the job involves customs entry or import operations tied to a specific distribution center.
How do you become a trade compliance analyst?
Start with a degree in international business, supply chain, or a related field, then build hands-on experience through customs brokerage, freight forwarding, or a corporate trade compliance internship. Earning a Certified Customs Specialist credential early strengthens your candidacy. Focus on learning HTS classification, denied-party screening, and the basics of EAR and ITAR, since those skills appear in the majority of job descriptions.
Can you get a trade compliance analyst job with little experience?
Yes, entry-level trade compliance analyst roles exist at third-party logistics firms, customs brokers, and large importers who train candidates with the right foundational knowledge. The most effective way to break in with limited experience is to pass the Customs Broker License Exam or a Certified Customs Specialist course, which proves regulatory aptitude. Internships at freight forwarders or corporate trade teams also provide the classification and screening exposure hiring managers look for.
What does the trade compliance analyst interview process look like?
The process typically starts with a recruiter screen covering your regulatory background and software experience, followed by a hiring manager interview that goes deeper on specific regulations you've worked with, such as EAR, ITAR, or OFAC. Many employers include a practical scenario, asking how you'd classify a product, resolve a denied-party flag, or respond to a customs audit finding. Final rounds often involve a panel with legal or logistics leadership.
Where can I find and apply to trade compliance analyst jobs?
You can find and apply to trade compliance analyst jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your regulatory background, seniority level, and preferred location or remote setup, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
