Machine Learning Engineer Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a machine learning engineer in Washington?
Machine learning engineering has no state-issued license in Washington, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical skill. Most Washington employers expect at minimum a bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field, though master's degrees are common at larger tech firms. Building a portfolio of end-to-end ML projects, contributing to open-source repositories, and earning cloud certifications recognized by major Washington employers strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
How much do machine learning engineers make in Washington?
Machine learning engineers in Washington earn a median of about $166,540 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $96,810 for the lowest 10% to over $255,350 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire machine learning engineers in Washington?
Employers hiring machine learning engineers in Washington right now include TikTok, Apple, and Meta, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Washington's concentration of major cloud and enterprise technology headquarters means demand is consistent year-round rather than tied to seasonal hiring cycles.
Which Washington cities have the most machine learning engineer jobs?
Seattle, Bellevue, and Redmond have the most machine learning engineer openings in Washington. Seattle's density of cloud, enterprise software, and health technology companies anchors the majority of listings, while the Eastside cities of Bellevue and Redmond reflect the campuses of Microsoft and related technology partners, and Spokane's growing healthcare and university-affiliated research sector accounts for its presence on the list.
Are there remote machine learning engineer jobs in Washington?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 45% of machine learning engineer openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how thoroughly the work is performed on laptops and cloud infrastructure rather than on physical premises. Model research, experimentation, and pipeline development are the functions most commonly offered as fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a machine learning engineer in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a combination of a relevant degree and a strong project portfolio, since Washington employers regularly hire new graduates into associate or junior ML engineer roles when candidates can show working models and clean code. Microsoft and Amazon both run structured new-graduate programs that place candidates into ML teams, and applied scientist or data analyst roles at mid-size Washington technology and health-tech firms often serve as lateral entry points that transition into ML engineering within one to two years.
Where can I find and apply to machine learning engineer jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to machine learning engineer jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current Washington openings updated on an ongoing basis. Find the roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly to each one.
