Who's Hiring

Maintenance Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a maintenance job in Chicago?
Focus your search on Chicago's multifamily apartment operators along the North Side and South Loop, the manufacturing and logistics employers in the Northwest Side industrial corridor, and commercial property managers serving the Loop and River North. Candidates who hold an EPA 608 certification for refrigerant handling and basic HVAC skills move to the top of the list fastest. Applying directly to building management companies and facilities contractors gets results more quickly than waiting for large postings to circulate.
Which companies hire maintenances in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring maintenances in Chicago include Wag Hotels, GO STORE IT, and SHP MANAGEMENT, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's mix of large multifamily residential portfolios, legacy industrial manufacturers, and a dense downtown commercial real estate sector means a broad range of employer types are hiring year-round.
Are there remote maintenance jobs in Chicago?
Yes, but only for a narrow slice of the field. Hands-on building and equipment maintenance is inherently on-site, so fully remote roles are rare. About 13% of maintenance openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, concentrated in maintenance coordination, facilities scheduling, and remote monitoring roles rather than physical upkeep positions.
How can I get a maintenance job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is a maintenance helper or porter role with a multifamily property management company on the North Side or West Loop, where on-the-job training is common and turnover creates consistent openings. Chicago's public housing authority and large hotel operators in the River North and Magnificent Mile area also hire entry-level candidates who show mechanical aptitude. Earning an EPA 608 certification before applying sets you apart even without prior professional experience.
