Maintenance Jobs in Philadelphia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a maintenance job in Philadelphia?
Focus your search on Philadelphia's largest employer clusters: hospital systems, university campuses, commercial real estate firms managing Center City office towers, and hotel properties along Market Street and in Old City. Candidates who hold EPA 608 certification for refrigerants or a Pennsylvania plumbing or electrical apprenticeship credential stand out. Applying directly to property management companies overseeing Philadelphia's growing residential developments in Fishtown and Kensington also produces strong results.
Which companies hire maintenances in Philadelphia?
Philadelphia maintenance roles are posted by Tarantino Properties, KONE, and Fox Subacute and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Philadelphia's mix of large academic medical centers, historic commercial buildings, and expanding multifamily residential developments means employer types range from healthcare systems and universities to real estate operators and hotel groups.
Are there remote maintenance jobs in Philadelphia?
Yes, though only a small share of maintenance work is remote since most roles require hands-on, on-site presence. About 25% of maintenance openings tied to Philadelphia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the rare desk-based roles such as maintenance planning, scheduling coordination, or facilities software administration. Those remote-compatible positions are most common with large property management firms and healthcare networks headquartered in Philadelphia.
How can I get a maintenance job in Philadelphia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Philadelphia is applying for a maintenance helper or facilities assistant role with a large residential property management company operating in neighborhoods like Brewerytown, Graduate Hospital, or South Philly, where tenant turnover keeps entry-level openings steady. Philadelphia's community colleges also offer short HVAC and electrical fundamentals courses that signal commitment to employers. Starting with a janitorial or building services position at a university or hospital system and cross-training into maintenance tasks is another common route locals use.
