Entry Level Mechanical Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level mechanical engineer job?
Entry level mechanical engineer roles reward candidates who show hands-on proof of work. Employers at this level look for relevant internships, capstone projects, CAD proficiency, and familiarity with manufacturing or design processes. A portfolio that demonstrates real problem-solving, even from coursework or personal projects, gives you a clear edge over candidates who only list coursework on a resume.
Which companies hire entry level mechanical engineers?
Companies hiring entry level mechanical engineers right now include Cummins, L3Harris, and Rimkus, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Employers range from large manufacturers and defense contractors to engineering consultancies and consumer product companies, many of which run structured new graduate programs designed to build foundational skills on the job.
Are there remote entry level mechanical engineer jobs?
Yes, though most mechanical engineering work at this level involves physical prototypes, lab equipment, or manufacturing floors that require being on-site. About 7% of entry level mechanical engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with remote roles most common in software-adjacent areas like simulation, CAD modeling, and technical documentation.
Are these new grad mechanical engineer jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior mechanical engineer roles. A posting is new-grad friendly when it welcomes 0 to 2 years of experience, counts internships or co-ops toward that requirement, or accepts a strong project portfolio in place of full-time work history. Roles labeled junior or associate also fall into this category and are a natural fit for candidates just entering the field.
Which industries hire the most entry level mechanical engineers?
Entry Level mechanical engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Manufacturing, and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive early-career hiring because they depend on a steady pipeline of engineers to support product development, testing, and manufacturing operations, and they typically offer structured onboarding that suits candidates with limited professional experience.
