Overview:
Animal Hospital of Diamondhead, a CareVet partner, has a tremendous opportunity to lead our thriving practice in Pass Christian, MS! Our Medical Directors dedicate over 90% of their time to practicing medicine, allowing them to stay fully engaged in patient care while leading the team. This is an excellent opportunity for a veterinarian who enjoys a diverse caseload, values collaboration, and is passionate about providing high-quality medicine in a supportive, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical and surgical skills, with advanced soft tissue surgery experience preferred to help support emergency and urgent care cases such as splenectomies, gastrointestinal foreign body obstructions, pyometras, cystotomies, exploratory surgeries, laceration repairs, and other emergency procedures commonly seen in small animal practice. Experience mentoring veterinarians, fostering a positive hospital culture, and driving medical excellence is highly valued.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Medical Director is responsible for providing medical leadership for the hospital, managing associate veterinarians, and assuring regulatory compliance relating to the practice of veterinary medicine. The Medical Director is also responsible for creating an environment of teamwork in which quality medicine and exceptional client service are delivered.

Our facility is equipped with 3 exam rooms, digital X-ray, ultrasound, and in-house Idexx laboratory equipment, allowing our team to provide efficient, high-quality patient care. We offer a diverse caseload ranging from wellness and preventative medicine to surgery and urgent care cases. You will work alongside a passionate, experienced support team dedicated to delivering exceptional care to our small animal patients while fostering a collaborative and positive hospital culture.

Responsibilities:

Advancing Medical Care
- Oversees surgical and medical cases for all doctors, ensuring positive outcomes, accurate estimates, and client communication and education.
- Answers client questions and concerns regarding medical and surgical procedures.
- Provides oversight and direction of medical standards, quality of care and inventory.
- Establishes medical protocols.
- Oversees transfer of medical cases from doctor to doctor.
- Minimizes waste and controls costs relating to medical supplies, surgical instruments, and drug inventories.

Leading Staff and Practice
- Participates in the recruiting and interviewing process for Doctors, and when appropriate general staff members.
- Monitors Doctor performance and production.
- Develops and monitors hospital-specific client compliance protocols and procedures.
- Participates in technician appraisal and medical counseling sessions.
- Ensures all medical staff receive applicable training, including the mentoring of new graduates.
- Supports the Hospital Manager with staff training programs and tracking CE and DVM licensure.

Financial Responsibilities
- Drives revenue and hospital contribution growth, which includes managing all hospital expenses.
- Assists in the preparation of an annual planning strategy, operating budget and capital budget.
- Monitors key financial reports

- Drives patient visits and encourages community involvement.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required
- Licensure in the state/s candidate will be working
- Ability to show compassion to both pets and their owners
- Outstanding dexterity in handling animals while performing precise tasks
- Ability to react quickly and make decisions under pressure about the wellbeing of an animal
- Strong fondness and understanding of animals
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of animal behavior
- Ability to use medical technologies during diagnosis, research and surgery of animals
