Job Summary:
Location: Methodist Fremont Health
Address: 450 E 23rd St. - Fremont, NE
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with evening shift differential.
The Medication History Technician is responsible for patient interviews and investigations resulting in a timely and accurate medication record for our patients.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
- Perform Patient Interviews to obtain accurate medication information.
- Review Pharmacy, clinic and medical record data to validate medication information.
- Accurate data entry into the medical record.
- Communicate with Pharmacists on identified medication discrepancies.
- Promote and educate on Pharmacy Discharge Medication Program
Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with evening shift differential.
Job Requirements
Education
- Required: A high school diploma or equivalent General Education Development (GED) may include specialized or vocational courses.
- Preferred: Experience with medications or similar education (i.e. nursing/ pre-pharmacy etc.)
License/Certifications
- Preferred: Pharmacy Technician Registration and Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certification.
Experience
- Required: One to Two years in position where medications are used and dispensed.
- Preferred: Two years Pharmacy Technician experience.
- Preferred: Retail experience.
- Preferred: Previous pharmacy experience including prescription transcription duties. OR One year experience performing medication history interviews may be substituted for Pharmacy Technician.
Skills
- Required: Strong communication and computer skills.
- Preferred: Accurate work with careful attention to detail and persistence to get the job done right every time. Working knowledge of common outpatient medication doses and forms.
- Required: Possess the necessary interpersonal and communication skills.
- Required: Must be able to write legibly, speak, and read English proficiently.
- Required: Must be able to operate computer, calculator, telephone, pager, and other related pharmacy equipment.
- Required: Cerner computer skills must be at an acceptable standard 4 weeks after starting position.
- Required: Adapt to changes in workload and schedule to meet patient needs. Set priorities and solve problems. Self-directed autonomous nature, resourceful, good interpersonal skills, self-confident, self-starter are expected abilities of this position.
Physical Requirements
Physical
- Sitting in the same location or standing/walking; required to stoop, climb or lift light material (10 to 20 lbs.) or equipment.
- Requires ability to handle stress; repetitive use of hands and fingers (use of computer keyboard); ability to work independently; ability to stand (50%) and sit (20%) and walk (30%) throughout shift - walking or standing for long periods of time (4 – 8 hours); ability to lift and carry moderate (e.g. 25 lbs) loads; stooping or kneeling (e.g. to pick up items from floor or on higher/lower shelves); must be able to operate equipment required to perform pharmacy department tasks.
