Tips for Your Medical Equipment Technician Job Search
Tailor your resume for each equipment type
Hiring managers scan for the specific equipment you've serviced. List exact device brands and model series, such as ventilators, infusion pumps, or defibrillators, rather than broad categories. A resume that names the hardware you've touched gets far more callbacks than a generic one.
List certifications before your job history
Credentials like CBET, CRES, or manufacturer-specific certifications are often hard screening filters. Put them in a dedicated section near the top of your resume so recruiters don't have to hunt for them. Missing this placement costs interviews even when you're fully qualified.
Filter openings by equipment category not just title
Job postings for this role use inconsistent titles: biomedical equipment technician, field service engineer, and HTM technician all describe similar work. Search by equipment type or clinical setting alongside the title so you don't miss postings that match your actual skills.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists medical equipment technician openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare for hands-on technical screening
Many employers include a bench test or troubleshooting scenario before the final interview. Practice walking through a fault-isolation process out loud, covering how you'd prioritize safety checks, consult service manuals, and document findings. Verbal clarity on your diagnostic logic matters as much as the answer.
Negotiate on-call rotation terms before accepting
On-call requirements vary widely and aren't always disclosed upfront. Ask directly about rotation frequency, response-time expectations, and whether on-call pay is flat-rate or hourly. These terms affect your actual quality of life more than base pay differences between competing offers.
Medical Equipment Technician Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most medical equipment technicians?
The companies hiring the most medical equipment technicians right now include Agiliti Health, Atrium Health, and Agiliti, with the largest share of openings in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand tends to be highest at large health systems and medical device manufacturers with national field service teams.
How many medical equipment technician jobs are remote?
About 0% of medical equipment technician openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of most roles. Remote work is most common in documentation-heavy positions, technical support roles, and quality compliance functions where physical access to equipment is not required daily.
How do you become a medical equipment technician?
You typically start by completing an associate degree in biomedical equipment technology, electronics, or a related field, or by gaining equivalent training through military service. From there, entry-level positions let you build hands-on experience with specific device categories. Earning a credential such as the CBET through AAMI strengthens your candidacy for more advanced roles and often leads to higher responsibility positions over time.
Can you get hired as a medical equipment technician with little experience?
Yes, employers regularly hire candidates with limited direct experience when they demonstrate strong electronics fundamentals and a relevant credential or degree. Military biomedical training is a recognized pathway that many health systems actively recruit. Targeting smaller hospitals, third-party maintenance organizations, or device manufacturer training programs gives you the best shot at breaking in without a long work history.
What does the medical equipment technician interview process look like?
The process typically starts with a phone screen focused on your equipment background and certifications, followed by an in-person or video interview with a biomedical services manager. Many employers add a practical component where you walk through a troubleshooting scenario or describe your documentation process. Final rounds may include a facility tour and conversation with clinical staff you'd support.
Where can I find and apply to medical equipment technician jobs?
You can find and apply to medical equipment technician jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your equipment background and location, then apply directly to each one that fits.
