Medical Oncologist Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a medical oncologist job in Boston?
Boston's medical oncologist market centers on the Longwood Medical Area, where academic medical centers, NCI-designated cancer centers, and affiliated research institutes cluster. Candidates with subspecialty training in hematologic malignancies, thoracic oncology, or GI oncology tend to have an edge, as do those with active clinical trial experience. Community health systems in neighborhoods like Jamaica Plain and Dorchester also hire, broadening options beyond purely academic roles.
Which companies hire medical oncologists in Boston?
Employers hiring medical oncologists in Boston right now include Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's hiring landscape blends large academic medical systems, NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers, specialty oncology practices, and biotech-affiliated clinical research organizations.
Are there remote medical oncologist jobs in Boston?
Yes, but with significant limits: clinical oncology is largely hands-on and on-site by nature, so fully remote roles are uncommon. About 8% of medical oncologist openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting roles in teleoncology, second-opinion consulting, and biotech medical affairs rather than direct patient care.
How can I get a medical oncologist job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Boston is completing a fellowship at one of the city's Longwood Medical Area institutions, which often converts directly into an attending or junior faculty position. Boston's academic systems and affiliated community health centers also hire new graduates for general oncology roles. Research-track positions at cancer institutes and clinical trial coordinator roles can build a Boston network that opens attending-level doors.
Which industries hire the most medical oncologists in Boston?
Boston medical oncologist roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's density of research universities, NCI-designated cancer centers, and venture-backed biotech firms makes it one of the most diverse oncology hiring markets in the country.
