Job Summary:
Provides evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and management of behavioral health problems and psychiatric disorders. The PMHNP possesses prescriptive authority and provides comprehensive services necessary for the promotion of optimal mental health, prevention and treatment of psychiatric disorders and ongoing health maintenance services.
Excellence in Practice:
- Obtains medical and psychosocial histories and conducts comprehensive physical and behavioral health assessments and evaluations in an outpatient setting to determine diagnosis.
- Orders, evaluates and interprets diagnostic procedures, laboratory studies and therapeutic interventions to assess the patients’ clinical problems and health care needs.
- Prescribes, monitors and performs medication management with clients to monitor symptoms and effectiveness of treatment plan.
- Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, consultations, referrals and patient outcomes in the client’s file ensuring compliance and adherence to state and regulatory requirements, facility policies and procedures and current standards of clinical practice.
- Educates consumers, family members and care providers about mental health issues, diagnostic studies and procedures, prescribed medication/treatment and ongoing preventative care to ensure informed patient consent, continuity of treatment and the highest quality of care.
- Functions as a clinical liaison with community-based physicians, staff and care teams through tasks including but not limited to peer to peer reviews, case consultations, psychoeducation and facilitates timely communication and information exchange to ensure continuity of care.
- Provides both formal and information education and training for WRHS staff on topics including but not limited to mental health diagnosis, pharmacological interventions, best clinical practices, and case conceptualizations to ensure staff have the knowledge and skills to provide the highest quality of care.
- Maintains current knowledge of medical advancements in the care and treatment of individuals with behavioral health, psychiatric, intellectual and developmental disabilities incorporating advancements into clinical practice to ensure that all children are receiving the most current treatment modalities.
- Represents WRHS on organizational committees, community-based work groups and professional organizations through active participation to educate about WRHS services, ensure adherence to clinical best practices and provide the highest quality of care.
- Facilitates and participates in the evaluation of the patient’s medical record by physicians and peers through tasks including but not limited to documentation review, treatment planning, offering insight and guidance to ensure that evidence-based practice standards and clinical protocols are met.
- Performs other duties as required.
Education:
Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited educational institution.
Licensed and ANCC Board Certified as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner across the lifespan.
Experience:
Post-graduate clinical experience in a mental health setting is preferred.
Must be able to perform CPR using agency-trained protocols.
License Requirements:
Maintains current and highest Drug Enforcement Agency certification allowed in the state of North Dakota and South Dakota.
Must have current, valid driver’s license in state of residence.
Skills:
Proficient in the use of an electric health record application. Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation and written and verbal communication skills.
