INTRODUCTION
Access Services is seeking to hire a high-energy and self-motivated Mobile Crisis Intern to join our Montgomery County Mobile Crisis team, with an office based out of Plymouth Meeting, PA.
Montgomery County Mobile Crisis offers 24/7 support to people of all ages in difficult times. Individuals in crisis can speak with a counselor regarding mental health, addiction, trauma, etc., either by phone/video or in-person in their homes or communities.
As a Mobile Crisis Intern, you will have the opportunity to sit and be present with people on some of the hardest days of their lives. You will be expected to work alongside teammates, supporting individuals in crisis while also maintaining a supportive and growth-focused team dynamic. Our team seeks to continually learn and grow together.
Crisis response work is an excellent, diversified experience. You will meet people from all walks of life and have a chance to make a real impact in critical moments. You will experience the value of partnership with various providers, emergency services, schools, and teammates to support individuals and communities in times of crisis. You will gain experience in crisis expertise, documentation, and risk assessment.
Internship Hours:
A minimum of 20 hours/weekly is preferred; available internship hours range from 7am - 10pm, 7 days a week.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications of a Mobile Crisis Intern:
- Working on a Master’s degree in a related field such as psychology, social work, etc. (required). Must already have their Bachelor’s.
- Being humble, adaptable, empathetic, and curious.
- Ability to think critically and engage with others.
- Some prior work or internship experience related to mental health (strongly preferred).
- Intern will be expected to drive an agency vehicle.
- Valid driver’s license with 2+ years of driving experience, reliable vehicle, and adequate car insurance (required).
- No Driver’s License suspensions in the last 48 months.
Key Responsibilities of a Mobile Crisis Intern:
- Provide immediate access to “hands-on” crisis support through phone counseling and mobile in-person crisis intervention.
- Provide rapid and effective assessment, support, hospitalization (when necessary), linkage to community resources, crisis prevention planning, and follow up.
- Develop and write action plans in a timely manner with clear and measurable outcomes.
- Participate in assertive outreach to individuals identified to be high users of crisis services.
- Complete progress notes and required documentation in a timely manner for each individual served.
- Being able to engage an array of people, learning risk assessments, safety planning, and other resources in the county.
Required Transportation:
- A valid US driver’s license for at least two years, not including time with permit.
- No serious traffic convictions within the past three years. (Serious convictions include, but are not limited to, DUI, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, or three or more traffic violations and/or at-fault accidents within that period.)
- Access to a reliable vehicle during work hours. Vehicle must have valid registration and inspection stickers.
- Valid auto insurance. You will be asked to provide proof that you are a covered driver on the policy.
Required Clearances, to be completed before first day of internship, including:
- FBI Clearance
- DMV Driving History Report
- PA Criminal Clearance
- Child Abuse Clearance
Detailed instructions and guidance regarding the clearance process will be provided directly by Human Resources upon selection.
Essential Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
- Work in program sites and the community routinely providing support to clients and use knowledge of mental health systems in the county to connect people with proper support.
- Work in a standard office environment.
- Utilize desktop computer equipment daily.
- Able to lift or move items associated with sedentary work and light work (exert up to 20 lbs.)
