Technical Architect Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical architect in Pennsylvania?
Technical architects in Pennsylvania are not required to hold a state-issued license, so the path runs through education, experience, and industry certification. Most roles require a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, followed by several years in software engineering or systems design. Earning a recognized architecture credential such as TOGAF or a major cloud certification strengthens a candidacy significantly with Pennsylvania employers in finance, healthcare, and defense.
How much do technical architects make in Pennsylvania?
Technical architects in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $131,840 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $79,240 for the lowest 10% to over $188,120 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical architects in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring technical architects in Pennsylvania right now include NORR, Avantor, and I8IS, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of large health systems, financial institutions, and federal contractors means demand is consistent and rarely seasonal.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most technical architect jobs?
Philadelphia, Radnor, and North Wales have the most technical architect openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia drives volume through its financial services firms, major health systems, and Comcast's headquarters in the city, while Pittsburgh's strength in robotics, healthcare technology, and Carnegie Mellon's research ecosystem pulls significant enterprise architecture hiring, and suburban markets like King of Prussia attract defense and consulting firms that keep those corridors active.
Are there remote technical architect jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most fields. Technical architecture is primarily a desk and design discipline, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 100% of technical architect openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how broadly employers have embraced distributed teams for this role. Cloud architecture, enterprise integration design, and solution architecture review work are the functions most consistently offered remotely.
How can I get hired as a technical architect in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into architecture from a software engineer or systems analyst role, which large Pennsylvania employers such as Highmark Health, Unisys, and major Philadelphia-area consulting firms regularly hire at the associate level. Building a portfolio of architecture diagrams, contributing to open-source infrastructure projects, and earning a foundational cloud certification such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate gives candidates a measurable edge. Some Pennsylvania health systems and financial institutions also run rotational technology programs that expose early-career engineers to architecture work directly.
Where can I find and apply to technical architect jobs in Pennsylvania?
