Motion Graphics Designer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a motion graphics designer in New York?
Motion graphics designers in New York do not require a state-issued license or registration to work. The typical path is completing a degree or diploma in graphic design, animation, or a related field, then building a strong portfolio of motion work. New York employers, particularly agencies and studios in Manhattan and Brooklyn, place significant weight on that portfolio alongside software proficiency in After Effects and Cinema 4D. Freelance work and internships at New York production companies are common early stepping stones.
How much do motion graphics designers make in New York?
Motion graphics designers in New York earn a median of about $96,770 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,190 for the lowest 10% to over $176,190 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire motion graphics designers in New York?
Employers hiring motion graphics designers in New York right now include Anthropic, Brex, and David Yurman Enterprises, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of advertising agencies, broadcast networks, and media conglomerates means full-time creative roles open consistently throughout the year rather than in seasonal waves.
Which New York cities have the most motion graphics designer jobs?
New York and Victor have the most motion graphics designer openings in New York. New York City dominates because Manhattan and Brooklyn are home to the country's largest concentration of advertising agencies, broadcast networks, and streaming content studios, while any suburban or secondary markets on the list reflect anchor employers such as regional production companies or university media departments drawing local creative talent.
Are there remote motion graphics designer jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most creative fields. About 33% of motion graphics designer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that the core deliverable is digital files rather than physical presence. The tasks most commonly done fully remote are animation, compositing, and revision cycles, while on-site days typically cover client presentations, color grading sessions, or collaborative edit reviews.
How can I get hired as a motion graphics designer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a strong student or personal-project portfolio paired with an internship at a New York agency or production studio. Large media employers in the city, including broadcast networks and post-production houses, regularly bring on junior motion designers and design associates who come from adjacent roles such as graphic designer, video editor, or production assistant. Many New York art schools and design programs maintain active placement relationships with local studios, giving recent graduates direct access to entry-level openings that are rarely posted publicly.
Where can I find and apply to motion graphics designer jobs in New York?
