Senior Level Occupational Therapist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level occupational therapist job?
Employers at this level look for clinicians who have moved beyond executing treatment plans to shaping them, mentoring others, and taking ownership of program quality. Demonstrating specialty certifications, experience leading interdisciplinary teams, and a history of improving patient outcomes across complex caseloads gives candidates a clear edge. Are there remote senior level occupational therapist jobs?
Yes, though most senior occupational therapist roles remain on-site or hybrid given the hands-on nature of clinical work. About 0% of senior level occupational therapist openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with telehealth, care coordination, and clinical consulting positions making up the bulk of fully remote opportunities at this experience level.
What makes a occupational therapist role senior level?
Senior occupational therapist roles are distinguished by scope and ownership rather than simply years in practice. These positions involve leading program development, supervising or mentoring junior clinicians, managing complex or specialized caseloads with limited oversight, and contributing to departmental strategy or policy. The expectation is that you guide clinical direction, not just carry it out.
