The opportunity

Beloit College invites applications for a founding core faculty member who will also serve as Clinical Coordinator (Director of Clinical Training) for its new Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program. This is an opportunity to build the program's clinical training infrastructure from the ground up and to establish the practicum and internship partnerships, structures, and culture that will define students' transition from classroom to practice at a liberal arts institution that genuinely values faculty expertise and intellectual vision.

We are seeking a counselor educator who understands that clinical training is where professional identity, ethical practice, and community-responsive counseling come together. This person will carry the responsibilities of a core faculty member and, in addition, lead the coordination of the program's practicum and internship experiences.

The program's animating commitments include: social justice as a foundational orientation, embedded throughout the curriculum and clinical training; attention to underserved communities and the mental health workforce needs of south-central Wisconsin and the broader region, including Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison; interprofessional and interdisciplinary education, consistent with Beloit's institution-wide pedagogical identity; and community-based, experiential learning as a core program feature.

Role and Responsibilities

This position is a core counselor education faculty member, as defined under the 2024 CACREP Standards, who additionally serves as the program's practicum and internship coordinator. This is a 12-month faculty position with teaching, advising, scholarship, and service responsibilities, plus dedicated responsibility and support for clinical coordination. The position reports to the CMHC Program Director.

Clinical Training Coordination

• Serve as the program's practicum and internship coordinator, responsible for the coordination of practicum and internship experiences in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialized practice area
• Establish, formalize, and sustain clinical site partnerships and affiliation agreements across the region to ensure sufficient, high-quality placements for all students
• Recruit, orient, evaluate, and support site supervisors, including verifying supervisor qualifications and providing supervisor training consistent with CACREP requirements
• Manage student placement, clinical documentation, liability and site requirements, and respond to inquiries regarding practicum and internship
• Monitor student progress in field experiences and coordinate clinical gatekeeping with program faculty

Teaching and Curriculum

• Teach across the CMHC curriculum in areas of professional expertise, including clinical and skills coursework
• Provide clinical instruction and supervision as assigned
• Contribute to curriculum development, program accreditation, and continuous improvement consistent with the 2024 CACREP Standards

Student Development, Scholarship, and Service

• Advise and mentor students, supporting professional identity development and well-being
• Maintain sustained professional engagement through scholarship, professional development, service, advocacy, or ongoing counseling practice
• Contribute to CACREP self-study preparation, program evaluation, and ongoing compliance; represent the program with community partners and professional organizations

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet the 2024 CACREP core counselor education faculty requirements. Per those standards, core faculty hold a full-time appointment to the program and must have one of the following:

• An earned doctoral degree in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program; or
• A related doctoral degree and full-time employment as a faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013; or
• Full-time doctoral-level faculty employment in a CORE-accredited master's program prior to July 1, 2017; or
• Graduation from a rehabilitation counseling doctoral program prior to January 1, 2018

In addition, all candidates must demonstrate the following per 2024 CACREP Standards:

• Sustained membership in professional counseling organizations
• Relevant professional counseling credentials (e.g., LPC, LCPC, or equivalent Wisconsin licensure or eligibility for Wisconsin licensure)
• Evidence of sustained professional engagement through professional development, service and advocacy, ongoing counseling practice, or research and scholarly activity in counseling

For the clinical coordination responsibilities, candidates must additionally meet CACREP requirements for practicum and internship coordinators, including a master's degree in counseling or a related profession (met by the doctoral core-faculty qualification above). Beyond CACREP requirements, Beloit College requires:

• Clinical practice experience as a counselor and familiarity with clinical supervision
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain community and clinical partnerships and to manage detailed placement documentation
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice, multicultural counseling, and working with marginalized and underserved communities
• Capacity to function effectively in a startup environment, building clinical training infrastructure from the ground up

Preferred Qualifications

• Identification with a Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialized practice area
• Prior experience as a clinical coordinator, director of clinical training, or field placement coordinator
• Approved clinical supervisor credential (e.g., Wisconsin-approved supervisor or ACS) or eligibility
• Experience with CACREP accreditation processes, rural mental health, or integrated behavioral health
• Experience recruiting and mentoring diverse graduate student populations

Appointment and Compensation

This is a full-time, 12-month core counselor education faculty position with documented support and release time for clinical coordination. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2027.
