Oncology Social Worker Jobs in Arizona: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a oncology social worker in Arizona?
You must earn a Master of Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program and obtain licensure through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners, which issues the LMSW for supervised practice and the LCSW for independent clinical work. After completing the required supervised hours, most Arizona employers in oncology also expect or prefer the OSW-C credential from the Association of Oncology Social Work, which demonstrates specialized competency in cancer care settings.
Which companies hire oncology social workers in Arizona?
Employers hiring oncology social workers in Arizona right now include Banner Health, HiredFirst, and Talented Medical Solutions, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Arizona's large integrated health systems and its National Cancer Institute-designated programs are among the most consistent sources of full-time openings in the state.
Which Arizona cities have the most oncology social worker jobs?
Phoenix, Gilbert, and Tucson have the most oncology social worker openings in Arizona. Phoenix dominates because it is home to the state's largest hospital campuses and comprehensive cancer programs, while Tucson's volume is driven by the University of Arizona Health Network and its affiliated cancer center, and smaller surrounding cities benefit from outpatient oncology satellites tied to those same major systems.
Are there remote oncology social worker jobs in Arizona?
Yes, but they're rare. About 41% of oncology social worker openings tied to Arizona are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting that most of the role centers on in-person patient contact, bedside support, and multidisciplinary care team participation. The portions most likely to be performed remotely are telehealth supportive counseling, survivorship follow-up sessions, and care coordination calls for patients in rural or underserved Arizona communities.
How can I get hired as a oncology social worker in Arizona with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a field placement or graduate internship within an Arizona oncology or palliative care department, which many Banner Health and Dignity Health sites offer in coordination with Arizona State University's and the University of Arizona's MSW programs. Candidates without direct oncology experience should apply for roles labeled medical social worker or care coordination associate, then demonstrate adjacent skills from hospice, case management, or behavioral health settings alongside a completed or in-progress LMSW from the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.
Where can I find and apply to oncology social worker jobs in Arizona?
