Oncology Social Worker Jobs in Detroit: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a oncology social worker job in Detroit?
Your strongest path in Detroit runs through its dense Medical Center District, where major academic health systems and dedicated cancer programs cluster within a few walkable blocks. Candidates who have clinical oncology placements, experience with palliative or end-of-life care, and familiarity with Detroit's safety-net and community health infrastructure stand out. Bilingual skills, particularly Spanish or Arabic, give a real edge given the city's patient population.
Which companies hire oncology social workers in Detroit?
Employers hiring oncology social workers in Detroit right now include Henry Ford Health, Wayne State University, and Tenet Healthcare, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The local market is anchored by large academic medical centers, federally qualified health centers, and integrated cancer programs that together make Detroit one of the more active oncology hiring markets in the Midwest.
Are there remote oncology social worker jobs in Detroit?
Yes, though remote work is limited for this role since most oncology social work requires direct patient contact, care coordination, and in-person crisis support. About 100% of oncology social worker openings tied to Detroit are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to cover telehealth counseling, care navigation, or patient advocacy functions rather than bedside or inpatient work.
How can I get a oncology social worker job in Detroit with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Detroit is a supervised field placement or internship at one of the city's hospital-based cancer programs or community oncology clinics, which frequently convert high-performing students and new graduates into staff roles. Look specifically at federally qualified health centers and hospice organizations in Detroit and surrounding Wayne County, where entry-level openings and social work assistant roles are more common than at large academic systems.
Which industries hire the most oncology social workers in Detroit?
Most oncology social worker openings in Detroit sit in Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Science & Research, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Detroit's dense concentration of academic medical centers, NCI-designated cancer programs, and community health infrastructure in and around the Medical Center District and New Center keeps sustained hiring pressure across those sectors.
