Gastroenterologist Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a gastroenterologist in Michigan?
To practice as a gastroenterologist in Michigan, you must hold an active physician license issued by the Michigan Board of Medicine, which requires graduation from an accredited medical school, completion of an internal medicine residency, and completion of an ACGME-accredited gastroenterology fellowship. After training, you must pass ABIM board certification in gastroenterology. Michigan also requires a separate controlled substance license through the state for prescribing privileges.
How much do gastroenterologists make in Michigan?
Gastroenterologists in Michigan earn a median of about $149,990 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,440 for the lowest 10% to over $378,470 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire gastroenterologists in Michigan?
Employers hiring gastroenterologists in Michigan right now include Tenet Healthcare, Henry Ford Health, and McLaren Health Care, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of October 2026. Michigan's large integrated health systems and academic medical programs account for the majority of ongoing physician recruitment in the state.
Which Michigan cities have the most gastroenterologist jobs?
The cities with the most gastroenterologist openings in Michigan are Detroit, Jackson, and Lansing. Detroit and its surrounding suburbs drive volume through the concentration of large health systems such as Henry Ford Health and Beaumont Health, while Ann Arbor anchors a significant share of academic and subspecialty positions through Michigan Medicine, and Grand Rapids reflects the growth of Spectrum Health and its affiliated outpatient network.
Are there remote gastroenterologist jobs in Michigan?
Yes, but they are rare. Gastroenterology is a procedurally intensive specialty requiring in-person endoscopy and direct patient care, which limits remote work to a narrow subset of the role. About 0% of gastroenterologist openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of October 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in telehealth consultation, pre-procedure triage, or administrative medical director functions rather than procedural practice.
How can I get hired as a gastroenterologist in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path for a newly fellowship-trained gastroenterologist in Michigan is applying directly to new-physician recruitment programs at large health systems such as Henry Ford Health, Michigan Medicine, or Corewell Health, all of which run structured onboarding tracks for physicians completing training. Candidates without independent procedure volume can strengthen their applications by completing advanced endoscopy rotations during fellowship, obtaining ABIM board eligibility before interviewing, and targeting community hospital openings where mentored practice is available alongside seasoned attendings.
Where can I find and apply to gastroenterologist jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to gastroenterologist jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current Michigan openings from employers actively recruiting. Search the listings to find roles that match your specialty, location preference, and experience level, then apply directly to the positions that fit.
