PT Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pt in Michigan?
To work as a physical therapist in Michigan, you must hold an active license issued by the Michigan Board of Physical Therapy, which operates under the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. Licensure requires graduating from an accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy program and passing the National Physical Therapy Examination. Michigan also participates in the Physical Therapy Licensure Compact, allowing licensed PTs from compact member states to practice in Michigan without a separate application.
How much do PTs make in Michigan?
PTs in Michigan earn a median of about $29,350 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $27,070 for the lowest 10% to over $38,300 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire pts in Michigan?
Employers hiring pts in Michigan right now include GNC, Trilogy Health Services, and Renewal Rehab, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Michigan's large integrated health systems, rehabilitation networks, and school districts generate consistent openings throughout the year across both urban centers and rural communities.
Which Michigan cities have the most pt jobs?
Troy, Flint, and Detroit have the most pt openings in Michigan. Detroit leads due to its density of major hospital systems and rehabilitation centers, while Grand Rapids draws heavily from Spectrum Health and a growing outpatient corridor, and Lansing reflects steady demand from mid-Michigan health systems and state government-adjacent healthcare programs.
Are there remote pt jobs in Michigan?
Yes, but they're rare. Physical therapy is a hands-on clinical profession, so the large majority of Michigan openings require in-person patient care. About 20% of pt openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to be in telehealth consultation, care coordination, or clinical education rather than direct patient treatment.
How can I get hired as a pt in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate residency programs, which major Michigan health systems including University of Michigan Health and Beaumont Health run in orthopedics and neurology. Positions titled physical therapist assistant, rehabilitation technician, or PT aide at outpatient clinics and skilled nursing facilities also open the door for candidates building clinical hours. Completing a Michigan clinical rotation at a target employer significantly strengthens a new-grad application.
Where can I find and apply to pt jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to pt jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current Michigan openings from employers actively hiring. Search the available roles, find positions that match your experience and preferred setting, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
