PT Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pt in Pennsylvania?
To become a licensed physical therapist in Pennsylvania, you must graduate from a CAPTE-accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy program, pass the National Physical Therapy Examination administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy, and submit a licensure application to the Pennsylvania State Board of Physical Therapy. The Board also requires a criminal background check before issuing a license. Pennsylvania does participate in the PT Compact, allowing streamlined licensure for therapists already licensed in member states.
How much do PTs make in Pennsylvania?
PTs in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $35,520 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $24,180 for the lowest 10% to over $43,100 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire pts in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring pts in Pennsylvania right now include The GIANT Company, Planet Fitness - National Fitness Partners, and GNC, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's large integrated health systems, regional hospital networks, and independently owned outpatient orthopedic practices all maintain steady PT pipelines, meaning openings appear consistently across both urban medical centers and suburban satellite clinics throughout the state.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most pt jobs?
Lancaster, Philadelphia, and York have the most pt openings in Pennsylvania right now. Philadelphia dominates hiring volume because of its dense concentration of academic medical centers and regional hospital systems, while Pittsburgh's strength in UPMC and Allegheny Health Network drives demand in the west, and Allentown reflects the rapid healthcare expansion supporting the Lehigh Valley's growing population.
Are there remote pt jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, but they're rare. About 25% of pt openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, which reflects the fundamentally hands-on nature of physical therapy practice. The remote fraction that does exist tends to involve telehealth follow-up appointments, care coordination roles, or hybrid positions where administrative responsibilities are handled off-site while in-person patient care remains on location.
How can I get hired as a pt in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new graduate residency or fellowship programs offered through large Pennsylvania health systems such as UPMC, Penn Medicine, and Jefferson Health, which are designed specifically for clinicians finishing their DPT. Positions titled PT aide, PT technician, or rehab tech at outpatient clinics and skilled nursing facilities also give candidates direct clinical exposure that translates well when applying for licensed roles. Completing your Pennsylvania licensure promptly after the NPTE and gaining any inpatient or outpatient clinical hours during your program gives you a clear edge over candidates who delay.
Where can I find and apply to pt jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to pt jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings from employers actively hiring now. Search the listings to find roles that match your specialty, preferred location, and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
