PT Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pt in Texas?
To become a licensed physical therapist in Texas, you must graduate from a CAPTE-accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy program and pass the National Physical Therapy Examination. You then apply for licensure through the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners, submitting verification of your degree, exam scores, and a background check. Texas does not participate in the PT Compact, so out-of-state therapists must apply for an original Texas license.
How much do PTs make in Texas?
PTs in Texas earn a median of about $31,590 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $22,520 for the lowest 10% to over $46,710 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire pts in Texas?
Employers hiring pts in Texas right now include Turner & Townsend Pty Limited, HealthPRO Heritage, and PT Solutions Physical Therapy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Large hospital networks, outpatient rehabilitation groups, and home health agencies account for the majority of open positions throughout the state.
Which Texas cities have the most pt jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Abilene have the most pt openings in Texas, driven by the concentration of major hospital systems, orthopedic and sports medicine clinics, and a rapidly growing older adult population in those metro areas. Suburban markets around these cities also see steady demand as outpatient clinic networks continue to expand.
Are there remote pt jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Physical therapy is a hands-on clinical profession and the large majority of roles require in-person patient care. About 6% of pt openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in telehealth evaluation, clinical education, or utilization review rather than direct treatment.
How can I get hired as a pt in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to new-graduate residency and fellowship programs, which large Texas systems such as Memorial Hermann and UT Southwestern Medical Center operate in orthopedics, neurology, and sports. Candidates without clinical hours can also target PT aide or rehabilitation technician roles at outpatient clinics, which frequently convert to therapist positions once licensure is complete. A current Texas State Board application and any specialty coursework in orthopedic or geriatric care strengthens a new-grad's file considerably.
Where can I find and apply to pt jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to pt jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings, identify roles that match your specialty and location preference, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
