Gastroenterologist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a gastroenterologist in New York?
To practice as a gastroenterologist in New York, you must obtain a medical license through the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions, which requires completing medical school, an internal medicine residency, and an ACGME-accredited gastroenterology fellowship. After licensure, most New York employers also require board certification in gastroenterology through the American Board of Internal Medicine before granting full attending privileges.
How much do gastroenterologists make in New York?
Gastroenterologists in New York earn a median of about $183,460 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,160 for the lowest 10% to over $416,640 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire gastroenterologists in New York?
Employers hiring gastroenterologists in New York right now include Optum, Kaleida Health, and Physician Affiliate Group of New York, P.C. (PAGNY), based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of large academic health systems and integrated multi-specialty groups means many openings come with research, teaching, or subspecialty program affiliations.
Which New York cities have the most gastroenterologist jobs?
The cities with the most gastroenterologist openings in New York are Bronx, Middletown, and Cortland. New York City dominates the distribution because of the density of major academic medical centers and tertiary-care hospitals there, while Long Island and suburban markets like White Plains reflect the expansion of large systems such as Northwell Health and NewYork-Presbyterian beyond the five boroughs.
Are there remote gastroenterologist jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Gastroenterology is a procedural specialty that requires hands-on patient contact for the vast majority of clinical work. About 0% of gastroenterologist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to be limited to telemedicine follow-up care, second-opinion consultations, or administrative and medical-director roles rather than full clinical practice.
How can I get hired as a gastroenterologist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a gastroenterology fellowship at a New York program, since institutions like Mount Sinai, Weill Cornell Medicine, and Montefiore Medical Center routinely transition their own fellows directly into junior attending or locum tenens roles. Candidates without fellowship completion can pursue advanced internal medicine hospitalist positions at New York health systems as a bridge, and obtaining New York State licensure and ABIM board candidacy status early signals readiness to hiring committees.
Where can I find and apply to gastroenterologist jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to gastroenterologist jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across health systems, group practices, and academic institutions throughout the state. Find the roles that fit your specialty and experience level and apply directly from each listing.
