Clinical Pathologist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinical pathologist in New York?
To practice as a clinical pathologist in New York, you must hold an active physician license issued by the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions, which requires graduating from an accredited medical school, completing a residency in anatomic or clinical pathology, and passing required medical licensing exams. Board certification through the American Board of Pathology is not mandated by the state but is a standard hiring requirement at virtually every New York hospital and health system.
How much do clinical pathologists make in New York?
Clinical pathologists in New York earn a median of about $321,550 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $91,680 for the lowest 10% to over $493,460 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire clinical pathologists in New York?
Employers hiring clinical pathologists in New York right now include Clinical Laboratories of Hawaii, LLP, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and NYU Langone Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of large academic medical centers, regional hospital systems, and high-volume reference laboratories makes it one of the most consistently active states for pathologist recruitment.
Which New York cities have the most clinical pathologist jobs?
New York, Rye Brook, and Bronx have the most clinical pathologist openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its density of academic medical centers, cancer centers, and national reference labs, while Buffalo and Albany are driven by large regional systems like Kaleida Health and Albany Medical Center that anchor the pathology workforce outside the metro.
Are there remote clinical pathologist jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're limited. Pathology has more remote potential than most clinical specialties because digital slide review and telepathology platforms allow some diagnostic work to be done off-site, though sign-out, frozen sections, and laboratory oversight still require in-person presence. About 0% of clinical pathologist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. Molecular pathology and second-opinion consultations are the functions most commonly performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a clinical pathologist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a pathology residency at a New York program, since many large systems hire directly from their own resident pools. Institutions like NewYork-Presbyterian, Montefiore, and NYU Langone run robust residency and fellowship programs that serve as a direct pipeline to staff positions. Candidates without New York experience can strengthen their candidacy by completing subspecialty fellowship training, obtaining board certification eligibility, and targeting assistant pathologist or pathologist associate roles as a stepping stone into attending-level positions.
Where can I find and apply to clinical pathologist jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to clinical pathologist jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your subspecialty and experience level, and apply directly.
