Sonographer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sonographer in New York?
New York does not issue a state sonographer license, so the credential that matters is national registration through ARDMS or CCI, both of which are widely required by New York employers. You'll need to complete an accredited sonography program, typically an associate or bachelor's degree, and pass the relevant specialty exam. Most New York hospitals and imaging centers treat ARDMS registration as a non-negotiable hiring requirement.
How much do sonographers make in New York?
Sonographers in New York earn a median of about $103,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $79,630 for the lowest 10% to over $127,120 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sonographers in New York?
Employers hiring sonographers in New York right now include NYU Langone Health, St. Mary's Healthcare, and Catholic Health System, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's large integrated health systems and academic medical centers account for the majority of open positions, reflecting the state's dense hospital infrastructure.
Which New York cities have the most sonographer jobs?
Amsterdam, Brooklyn, and East Patchogue have the most sonographer openings in New York right now. New York City leads by volume due to the sheer density of hospital systems, specialty clinics, and academic medical centers, while Buffalo and Rochester draw consistent demand from regional health systems like Kaleida Health and Rochester Regional Health that serve large surrounding populations.
Are there remote sonographer jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Sonography is a hands-on imaging discipline that requires in-person patient contact, so the vast majority of roles are fully on-site. About 0% of sonographer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be in education, quality assurance review, or tele-ultrasound consulting rather than direct patient scanning.
How can I get hired as a sonographer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an accredited sonography program and applying directly to new-graduate or clinical training roles at large New York health systems, as Northwell Health and NewYork-Presbyterian both hire new grads into structured onboarding tracks. Candidates coming from adjacent roles like radiologic technologist or cardiac monitor technician have a strong footing for lateral moves. Holding or actively pursuing ARDMS registration gives your application a clear edge over unregistered candidates.
Where can I find and apply to sonographer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to sonographer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your specialty and experience level and apply directly.
