Oncology Social Worker Jobs in Columbus: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a oncology social worker job in Columbus?
Columbus hiring for oncology social workers is dominated by large academic medical systems, freestanding cancer centers, and hospice organizations clustered around the Medical Center District and Easton area. Candidates who have completed clinical placements at Columbus-area hospitals and who hold oncology-specific credentials like the OSW-C stand out. Networking through the Association of Oncology Social Work's Ohio chapter and targeting roles at outpatient infusion clinics can also open doors faster than applying cold.
Which companies hire oncology social workers in Columbus?
Companies currently hiring oncology social workers in Columbus include The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, American Traveler, and OhioHealth, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Columbus's oncology employer mix leans heavily toward large integrated health systems, academic cancer programs, and independent hospice and palliative care organizations.
Are there remote oncology social worker jobs in Columbus?
Yes, though opportunities are limited because oncology social work is a clinically hands-on role that typically requires in-person patient contact. About 33% of oncology social worker openings tied to Columbus are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with most of those concentrated in care coordination, triage counseling, or telehealth support roles rather than inpatient or infusion-center positions.
How can I get a oncology social worker job in Columbus with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Columbus is securing a field placement or practicum at a major hospital system's oncology or palliative care unit, which frequently converts to a hire. Columbus hospice organizations and community cancer support nonprofits also take on newer MSW graduates for case management or navigation roles. Completing your LISW-S supervision hours at a Columbus oncology program and pursuing the OSW-C credential early signals commitment to the specialty and strengthens your candidacy locally.
Which industries hire the most oncology social workers in Columbus?
The sectors hiring the most oncology social workers in Columbus are Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Columbus's status as home to a major academic medical center and several large regional hospital networks drives sustained demand across those sectors, particularly in integrated oncology and supportive care programs.
