ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages the flow of sterile instruments, supplies and case carts between CPD and the Operating Room. Responsible for monitoring, ordering, receiving, and storage of supplies within the Operating Room area. Assists the perioperative team as directed. Monitors and maintains all sterilizers located in the central core. Performs duties in a professional manner consistent with hospital policies and procedures, Operating Room standards and current state and federal regulations. Utilizes initiative and strives to maintain a steady level of productivity.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. Central Processing certification
3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
Experience:
1. One (1) year central processing or operating room related area.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Performs duties related to management of supplies and instruments located in the Operating Room.
- Requests, receives, and distributes all case carts prior to scheduled O.R. time and all add-on, emergency cases scheduled throughout the working day in a timely manner.
- Completes and submits an order for Central Stores and Central Processing supplies daily.
- Ensures stock supplies are available throughout the working day.
- Controls, replenishes and maintains flow of linen, pour solutions, supplies and instruments between the central core and CPD.
- Checks integrity of packaging prior to placing on shelf.
- Rotates supplies and instruments using a “last in, first out” system.
- Cleans carts and check expiration dates on supplies weekly.
- Assists perioperative clinical staff as directed.
- Assists circulator by obtaining supplies needed intraoperatively.
- Washes and sterilizes instruments.
- Assist with OR room turnover.
- Monitors and records sterilization process for sterilizers located in the Central Core.
- Runs and prepares for incubation process biological indicators and controls.
- Logs identification of contents information on all loads.
- Performs relief transport duties as assigned.
- Communicates information related to supplies instruments and equipment to O.R. and CPD staff including:
- Post notices on bulletin board for new instruments/equipment/supplies.
- Includes location of item.
- Includes name of surgeon.
- Forwards manufacturer’s processing information to CPD when appropriate.
- Posts notices for missing or broken items on bulletin board.
- Maintains good rapport with staff.
- Keeps director informed about reportable incidents and departmental concerns.
- Performs as preceptor as needed guiding new employees.
- Attends all mandatory hospital training classes, educational programs, as scheduled.
- Attends and participates in at least three staff meetings a year.
- Adjusts hours to meet needs of the department.
- Participates in annual inventory count.

4. Ability to apply principles of reasoning and problem solving to resolve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
