Orthodontic Assistant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a orthodontic assistant in Texas?
In Texas, orthodontic assistants must register with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners as a Registered Dental Assistant, which requires completing an accredited dental assisting program or qualifying through work experience and passing the Dental Assisting National Board exam. To take dental X-rays, you also need a separate Texas Dental Radiography Certification. Most employers expect at least one of these credentials before hiring, and completing both positions you competitively for orthodontic-specific roles.
How much do orthodontic assistants make in Texas?
Orthodontic assistants in Texas earn a median of about $45,430 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $35,400 for the lowest 10% to over $57,640 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire orthodontic assistants in Texas?
Employers hiring orthodontic assistants in Texas right now include Rodeo Dental & Orthodontics, Axpm Dental Management, and Western Dental & Orthodontics, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large DSO presence and the high concentration of multi-location orthodontic groups across the state mean that both regional chains and independent specialty practices post openings regularly throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most orthodontic assistant jobs?
Fort Worth, Laredo, and Cypress have the most orthodontic assistant openings in Texas, reflecting both population size and the density of dental service organizations and private specialty practices anchored in those metros. Suburban growth corridors around Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston, including areas like Frisco, Sugar Land, and Round Rock, also generate consistent demand as expanding communities build out their local dental infrastructure.
Are there remote orthodontic assistant jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Orthodontic assisting is a hands-on chairside role that requires physical presence to perform clinical tasks, so fully remote positions are exceptional. About 0% of orthodontic assistant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those listings typically involve administrative, scheduling coordination, or patient follow-up duties rather than direct clinical work.
How can I get hired as a orthodontic assistant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying as a dental assistant at a general or pediatric practice first, then transitioning into an orthodontic setting once you have chairside fundamentals. Large Texas DSO groups like Brident Dental and Orthodontics and Risas Dental and Braces regularly hire new graduates of accredited dental assisting programs and provide on-the-job orthodontic training. Earning your Texas Dental Radiography Certification and Registered Dental Assistant registration before applying significantly strengthens a no-experience application, as does any externship completed at an orthodontic practice during your program.
Where can I find and apply to orthodontic assistant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to orthodontic assistant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas employers. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to each one.
