JOB GOAL: Support young students in class with learning English and making appropriate grade level growth.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with set up of classroom and prepare materials for specialized instructional units
- Assist teacher in maintaining discipline and other functions
- Plan, develop and implement class curriculum approved by the teacher
- Provide instructional support services under the supervision of the teacher
- Provide corrective feedback to students and re-teach as necessary
- Serve as mentor to the students
- Communicate, collaborate and cooperate with colleagues, supervisors and students
- Support individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning activities
- Assist instructional personnel with the development and presentation of learning materials
- Assist in administering pre- and post-testing
- Conduct parental involvement activities
- May be asked to support students in unified arts classes (Art, Music, World Cultures, PE and Library)
- Complete written reports and assigned tasks related to the functions
- Participate in meetings as requested
- Assist with assessments, data collection, behavior plans and transitions
- May be asked to attend curriculum meetings and classroom team meetings
- Follow the schedule provided by the supervising teacher
- Cover classes when needed
- Complete additional tasks assigned
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's degree or Para Pro Test
- Experience in public education in an urban setting, preferred
- Ability to work effectively with students and staff
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, in both English and Portuguese
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents
- Knowledge of current educational practices
