Overview
On the Fintech Invoicing & Payments team, we build the AI-native sales transaction experience for QuickBooks Online — the Platform where small businesses get paid. As a Senior Staff Software Engineer on the team, you will drive significant, end-to-end technology initiatives across both horizontal layers — from the React form a merchant sees to the MCP tool an agent calls to the GraphQL/STS write that lands in QuickBooks — executing with a boundaryless mindset and contributing well outside any single repo's ownership. The hard, domain-specific work here is making an LLM reliably and safely operate a real accounting system: writing tool descriptions and structured-content contracts precise enough that the model stops asking redundant clarifying questions yet never corrupts a ledger.
You'll partner across a highly matrixed set of stakeholders (Omni, the QBO monolith, payments, design, and external MCP-host partners) to translate customer behavior into durable, scalable, secure designs that balance short-term delivery against long-term architecture. Critically, you'll guide where AI genuinely helps and where it doesn't: you bring a deep, hands-on understanding of LLMs and prompt/tool-description engineering, agent orchestration (LangChain/LangGraph-style frameworks), and the evaluation tooling needed to validate accuracy and prevent regressions before they reach a customer's books.

Senior Level Payments Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level payments specialist job?
Employers at this level look for demonstrated ownership of complex payment systems, such as end-to-end implementations of ACH, card networks, or real-time payment rails. Candidates who stand out typically bring a history of leading cross-functional projects, managing vendor relationships, and mentoring junior team members. Showcasing measurable outcomes, like reduced settlement times or improved fraud loss rates, gives your application a clear edge.
Which companies hire senior level payments specialists?
Companies hiring senior level payments specialists right now include JPMorganChase, Whatnot, and Citi, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level tends to come from financial institutions, fintech platforms, and large enterprises managing high transaction volumes who need experienced professionals to own critical payment operations.
Are there remote senior level payments specialist jobs?
Yes, remote and hybrid opportunities are common at the senior level. About 52% of senior level payments specialist openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how many organizations have normalized distributed work for experienced contributors who can operate independently and lead initiatives without on-site oversight.
What makes a payments specialist role senior level?
Senior level payments specialist roles are defined by ownership and scope rather than task execution. These positions involve setting the direction for payment strategy, making architectural decisions across systems, managing relationships with payment networks or processors, and mentoring less experienced colleagues. Candidates are expected to operate with minimal supervision and influence outcomes across departments, not just within a single team or workflow.
Which industries hire the most senior level payments specialists?
Senior Level payments specialist roles concentrate in Banking & Financial Services, Technology & Software, and Investment & Asset Management, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive demand because they process high transaction volumes, face strict regulatory requirements, or are actively modernizing legacy payment infrastructure, all of which call for experienced specialists who can lead the work.
