Advertised Job Summary
The Ryan Lab in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology & Neuroscience is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support VA and NIH-funded research examining cardiovascular, renal, and immunological control of blood pressure, as well as how chronic stress affects these systems. Under general supervision, the Postdoctoral Fellow will perform experiments using cutting-edge techniques to study how these systems. The individual will demonstrate commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures, and regulations. This position is established in support of expanded research activities.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
* Requires a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of research specialty by the start date of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
* The demonstrated ability to write research manuscripts, grants and train undergraduates in the lab is desired.
* PhD in a biomedical science such as physiology, exercise science, pharmacology, or immunology earned by the start date.
* Research experience in cardiovascular or renal physiology, and working with rodents.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
* Must be highly motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a dynamic team. Experience handling rodents (rats and/or mice), experience with rodent surgeries and perfusion, tissue dissection, and physiological measurements of cardiovascular and renal endpoints is critical.
* Excellent English speaking/writing skills required.
Job Duties
Design and conduct research experiments: Designs and conducts original research related to understanding the intersection of immune system function, stress, and cardiovascular or renal outcomes. This will involve work with experimental models, molecular biology, immunology, behavioral studies, and direct physiological measurements.

Data analysis: Responsible for documenting and recording research findings, conducting complex data and statistical analyses, generating summary graphs and tables, and drawing conclusions based on findings.

Scientific writing: Synthesizes data findings and writes scientific manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed scientific journals. This will include original research manuscripts, abstracts, reviews, and editorial commentaries. Will also write and submit scientific grants in the form of individual fellowships and will assist with the writing of collaborative research proposals.
