Post Doctoral Fellow Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a post doctoral fellow in Texas?
You become a post doctoral fellow in Texas by completing a doctoral degree and securing an appointment with a principal investigator at a Texas research institution or industry lab. No state-issued license is required for the role itself. Most appointments come through direct outreach to faculty, institutional job boards at UT, Texas A&M, or Baylor College of Medicine, and competitive fellowship programs offered by Texas-based research centers. A strong publication record and a focused research proposal significantly improve your candidacy.
Which companies hire post doctoral fellows in Texas?
Employers hiring post doctoral fellows in Texas right now include MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston Methodist, and The University of Texas at Austin, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of major medical centers, energy research institutes, and engineering-focused universities means openings appear across both academic and applied industry settings throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most post doctoral fellow jobs?
Houston, Austin, and Galveston account for the largest share of post doctoral fellow openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense cluster of medical and energy research institutions, including the Texas Medical Center, while Austin's growth in computational and life sciences research and Dallas's expanding biotech and university sector drive consistent demand in both metros.
Are there remote post doctoral fellow jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Post doctoral fellow work is largely lab-based and hands-on, which limits remote arrangements to a narrow subset of roles. About 1% of post doctoral fellow openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in computational biology, bioinformatics, data science research, or theoretical modeling where no physical lab presence is required.
How can I get hired as a post doctoral fellow in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to principal investigators at Texas research institutions before formally completing your doctorate, positioning yourself as a junior postdoc or research associate. The University of Texas system, Texas A&M, and Baylor College of Medicine all run structured onboarding programs for early-career researchers. Candidates moving from graduate research assistant or lab technician roles gain a strong edge, and a concise research statement tailored to the lab's active grants makes a measurable difference in competitive applicant pools.
Where can I find and apply to post doctoral fellow jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to post doctoral fellow jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across research institutions, medical centers, and industry labs. Find roles that fit your research background and apply directly to the employers posting them.
