Research Technician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a research technician in Texas?
Most research technician roles in Texas require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a natural science such as biology, chemistry, or biochemistry. Texas does not issue a universal state license for research technicians, but clinical laboratory roles may require certification through ASCP or AMT recognized by the Texas Department of State Health Services. University research hospitals and private biotech employers typically require demonstrated hands-on lab skills alongside the degree.
Which companies hire research technicians in Texas?
Employers hiring research technicians in Texas right now include ECS Limited, Houston Methodist, and UT Southwestern Medical Center, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's deep concentration of academic medical centers, semiconductor manufacturers, and energy research firms means demand is consistent across both the public and private sectors.
Which Texas cities have the most research technician jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin have the most research technician openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its world-class medical center complex and energy research sector, Austin's growth is driven by semiconductor and biotech expansion, and San Antonio's concentration of military medical research institutions and UT Health San Antonio generates consistent demand.
Are there remote research technician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Research technician work is largely hands-on and lab-based, so fully remote roles are uncommon. About 3% of research technician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and these tend to be positions focused on data analysis, regulatory documentation, or bioinformatics rather than bench work.
How can I get hired as a research technician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a research assistant or lab technician associate role at a Texas academic medical center or university research department, where structured training is built in. Large institutions like UT Southwestern, Texas A&M Health, and Baylor College of Medicine regularly post entry-level positions for new graduates. A relevant internship, a strong academic lab record, or ASCP certification gives candidates a clear edge over other applicants without paid experience.
Where can I find and apply to research technician jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to research technician jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and experience levels. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to each one.
