Post Doctoral Fellow Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a post doctoral fellow in New York?
Becoming a post doctoral fellow in New York requires a completed doctoral degree, typically a PhD or MD-PhD, in the relevant discipline. New York has no state-issued license specific to postdoctoral research, so the path runs through direct application to university, hospital, or research institute fellowship programs. Applicants typically submit a research statement, CV, and references to a faculty sponsor or institutional program office at a New York research center or academic medical institution.
Which companies hire post doctoral fellows in New York?
Employers hiring post doctoral fellows in New York right now include New York Society For Relief Of Ruptured & Crippled, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Masonic Medical Research Institute - MMRI, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of research universities, academic medical centers, and private research institutes means fellowship openings are spread across institutions of varying size and focus, from large urban medical schools to specialized basic-science research organizations.
Which New York cities have the most post doctoral fellow jobs?
New York, Utica, and Brooklyn have the most post doctoral fellow openings in New York. New York City dominates the distribution because of its concentration of academic medical centers and research universities, while Buffalo benefits from the University at Buffalo's large research enterprise, and Stony Brook draws openings from Stony Brook University and its affiliated health sciences programs on Long Island.
Are there remote post doctoral fellow jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of post doctoral fellow openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of most laboratory and clinical research environments. The sub-areas most likely to offer remote or hybrid arrangements are computational research, bioinformatics, data science, and social science fields where the primary work involves analysis rather than bench or patient-facing activities.
How can I get hired as a post doctoral fellow in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to structured postdoctoral programs at New York research institutions before your doctoral degree is conferred, since many programs accept candidates in the final year of their PhD. Institutions like Rockefeller University, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai run organized postdoctoral programs with defined mentorship and onboarding for researchers just finishing their degrees. A strong dissertation chapter or preprint, along with a faculty contact at the target institution, gives candidates without a publication record a meaningful edge.
Where can I find and apply to post doctoral fellow jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to post doctoral fellow jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings from research universities, academic medical centers, and private research institutions.
