Postdoctoral Researcher Jobs in St. Louis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a postdoctoral researcher job in St. Louis?
Focusing on St. Louis's life sciences and biomedical research hubs gives you the strongest footing, particularly the Cortex Innovation Community and the hospital-affiliated research centers along the Central West End. Academic medical centers, independent research institutes, and biotech startups are the primary hirers. Candidates with published first-author work, strong laboratory technique breadth, and a principal investigator reference who is known in the St. Louis research community consistently move to the top of applicant pools.
Which companies hire postdoctoral researchers in St. Louis?
Companies currently hiring postdoctoral researchers in St. Louis include Washington University in St. Louis, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. St. Louis draws from a mix of large academic medical institutions, independent research foundations, and early-stage biotech firms clustered in its designated innovation districts.
Are there remote postdoctoral researcher jobs in St. Louis?
Yes, though opportunities are limited because most postdoctoral researcher roles require hands-on laboratory or clinical work that cannot be done off-site. About 100% of postdoctoral researcher openings tied to St. Louis are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate in computational biology, bioinformatics, and data-heavy research roles where bench access is not required.
How can I get a postdoctoral researcher job in St. Louis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in St. Louis is a directly sponsored postdoctoral appointment through a faculty mentor at one of the city's research universities or affiliated medical centers, often arranged before graduation. Research assistant and laboratory technician roles at St. Louis biotech firms and hospital research departments are the most accessible lateral moves, building the publication record and institutional connections that postdoctoral hiring committees look for locally. Attending Cortex-hosted research symposia and presenting at regional scientific conferences also opens introductions to active principal investigators.
