Job Summary
Dean Baldwin Painting is a 60-year-old, well established, superior Aircraft Painting Company with 5 different US locations.
The facilities serve Commercial, Regional, VIP Corporate - Airbus and BBJ Aircraft Painting. Facilities operate 24/7. The Safety Manager is an integral part of the facilities leadership team.
The Safety Manager will be responsible for executing company safety policies and ensuring compliance with all applicable local and federal regulations. In addition, the Safety Manager must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise, and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. This individual must instruct and train employees in company safety policies and procedures. The Safety Manager will be required to identify best practices and incorporate these practices into our standards to continuously improve company safety programs and policies. These best practices will impact corporate savings through elimination of occupational injuries/illnesses, property damage, and improvement of production efficiency, and safeguarding the health and safety of all employees.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Manages the employee health and safety programs by managing current safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.
Provide employee safety awareness activities to prevent work-related injuries/illnesses
Champion culture improvement through effective approaches to making safety a value everyone’s mind.
Support company safety goals and strategic plan annually.
Facilitate a safety committee
Manage regulatory inspection and response processes (e.g. OSHA, environmental agencies, fire marshal).
Implements and manages DBP safety programs and trains managers and employees in work site safety policies.
Ensure safety recordkeeping (e.g. OSHA 300 log) and data integrity. Provides Operations with accurate reporting and metrics to support business safety initiatives.
Ensure the facility complies with all applicable laws and regulations.
Routinely review all applicable local, regional, state, and federal regulations and interpret requirements to the organization.
Provide development and implementation of routine audits to identify and correct non-compliance conditions.
Maintain an updated database of Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals in inventory.
Perform several types of compliance inspections (life safety, spill prevention, hazard surveillance, etc.) to help maintain a safe working environment.
Maintain the following plans and Manuals for the Facility:
Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures Plan,
Emergency Action and Fire Prevention Plan
Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan
Facility Safety Protocols
Respond to emergencies during regular work schedule and off shift times. Act as Incident Commander for the Facility.
Coordinate Workers Compensation Claims and Return to Duty Programs.
Administer medical surveillance program.
Investigate job accidents and incidents using Root Cause Analysis to ensure safe working practices are being followed.
Lead industrial hygiene, respiratory protection, and hearing conservation programs
Oversee environmental programs such as the wastewater system, hazardous waste storage, and air compliance.
Be available to respond to an incident or issue outside of normal working hours.
Perform other duties as assigned
Education/Experience:
Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language fluently and have strong communication skills, both oral and written (training/presentations/report writing.)
Must possess a working knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, regulations, and guidelines.
Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
Experience with environmental compliance is a plus.
The following work experience is preferred: investigating incidents, interviewing individuals, issuing corrective action, facilitating formal meetings, public speaking, and writing policies.
Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral and analytical capability. Must explain technical safety concepts in simple terms using Root Cause Analysis.
Proficiency with Microsoft products; Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Must have exceptional organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work at all levels within and organization and the ability to work in a diverse work group
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills
Job Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (Preferred)
Safety Manager: 3 years (Required)
Associate Safety Professional, Occupational Safety and Health Technician, or equivalent credential preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
Subject to continual loud noises.
Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and stand for prolonged periods of time, climb steps, ladders and or service/stands.
Must be able to work at heights utilizing fall protection equipment.
