Product Security Engineer Jobs in McLean: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a product security engineer job in McLean?
The most direct path into McLean's market is targeting defense contractors and intelligence community support firms clustered in Tysons Corner and along Route 123, where product security roles tied to cleared environments and government systems are most active. Candidates with hands-on experience in secure software development lifecycles, threat modeling, or SAST and DAST tooling stand out. Familiarity with federal compliance frameworks like FedRAMP or NIST 800-53 gives a concrete edge over generalist applicants in this market.
Which companies hire product security engineers in McLean?
McLean product security engineer roles are posted by Capital One, Information Technology Senior Management Forum, and Medallia and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. The local employer mix skews heavily toward large defense primes, intelligence agency contractors, and financial technology firms, many of which maintain their corporate headquarters or major operations offices in McLean specifically.
How can I get a product security engineer job in McLean with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in McLean is applying to junior security analyst or application security associate roles at mid-tier defense contractors and commercial technology firms that maintain offices in Tysons Corner, as these employers regularly build entry-level pipelines. Lateral moves from software engineering or IT operations into product security are common locally. Earning certifications like CompTIA Security Plus, CSSLP, or AWS Security Specialty alongside a portfolio of personal security research or capture-the-flag participation helps candidates compete without prior commercial product security experience.
