INTRODUCTION
This position will support the efforts of the University of Iowa Health Care Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center Community Outreach & Engagement (COE) team as part of the Rural Health Transformation Grant. Key responsibilities include building and strengthening relationships and connections between Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and rural communities/organizations; fostering bi-directional communication between Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and rural community members, organizations, and leaders about catchment area needs; and supporting evidence-based interventions, strategies, and practices in rural communities that are seeking to address cancer prevention, screening, and survivorship. The position is the point of contact for cancer hubs as part of the Rural Health Transformation Grant, and will be involved in planning, partnership development, and coordination of technical assistance activities for rural partners.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with partnership development and problem-solving.
- Assist with community engaged activities related to cancer prevention and control efforts across Iowa.
- Assist healthcare and community-based organizations with the implementation, adaptation, and evaluation of evidence-based interventions.
- Identify cancer-related needs or interests of communities in Iowa.
- Attend community meetings or health fairs to understand community issues or build relationships with community members.
- Attend and present at state and national conferences.
- Review literature related to the fields of implementation science, community engagement, cancer prevention and control, among other public health literature as needed.
- Assist in creation, coordination, and delivery of community and professional presentations, informational materials, and reports.
- Contribute to technical writing of scientific papers, manuscripts, and grant applications as needed.
- Present results/findings at team meetings, departmental meetings, and partner meetings.
- Participate in outcome evaluation and follow-up.
- Develop and maintain cooperative, positive working relationships with Cancer Hubs, spoke facilities, and other community organizations interested in cancer prevention and control.
- Support integration of Community Health Workers (CHWs) and patient navigators into cancer care teams.
- Facilitate outreach and engagement strategies to increase participation and reduce barriers to care.
- Connect community partners with data, tools, resources, research collaborators, and accurate information.
- Connect staff, researchers, and faculty to community partners.
- Assist with the coordination, scheduling, and support of meetings.
- Coordinate technical assistance activities for assigned Cancer Hubs and Spokes.
- Collect and report engagement metrics to support evaluation and continuous improvement.
- Support the dissemination of communication products, including posters, conference presentations, fact sheets, and toolkits.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in public health or related field and a minimum of 1 year of professional experience in administration is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Previous experience building and maintaining partnerships.
- Ability to travel within the State of Iowa is required. Ability to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program driving standard is required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Zoom.

Must reside in one of the following rural counties in Iowa: Allamakee, Appanoose, Audubon, Benton, Bremer, Buchanan, Buena Vista, Butler, Calhoun, Carroll, Cedar, Cerro Gordo, Cherokee, Chickasaw, Clarke, Clay, Clayton, Clinton, Crawford, Davis, Decatur, Delaware, Dickinson, Emmet, Fayette, Floyd, Franklin, Greene, Grundy, Hamilton, Hancock, Hardin, Harrison, Howard, Humboldt, Ida, Iowa, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Jones, Keokuk, Kossuth, Louisa, Lucas, Lyon, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Mitchell, Monona, Monroe, Muscatine, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Poweshiek, Ringgold, Sac, Shelby, Sioux, Tama, Union, Wapello, Washington, Wayne, Webster, Winnebago, Winneshiek, Worth, or Wright. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in public health or related field.
- 3+ years in community engagement, healthcare coordination, or technical assistance.
- Knowledge of rural health systems and Hub-and-Spoke care models.
- Experience interviewing and/or qualitative data collection and analysis.
- Experience with identifying, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based interventions.
- Previous experience in program and/or project management.
- Knowledge of and experience related to health and cancer-related issues facing communities in Iowa.
- Personal or professional experience with cancer, cancer control, public health, and/or health care.

This position is eligible for remote work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
