About the Role
Our software doesn't run in a data center or a browser tab. It runs on embedded Linux on constrained ARM hardware — seatback units, overhead displays, and cabin servers — installed by IFE OEMs and flying on commercial aircraft worldwide. Once a build ships, it can be months before it's updated.
That shapes how we test. We're looking for a QA Engineer who works close to the metal: flashing builds onto real target hardware, pulling logs over serial and SSH, profiling memory on a device with a fraction of your laptop's resources, and catching the defect before it's sitting in seat 32A at 38,000 feet.
What You'll Do
- Write and execute test plans and scripts against embedded target hardware, not just desktop or simulator builds.
- Maintain and test on physical hardware racks
- Run regression, integration, and system testing across multiple OEM platforms and hardware generations.
- Validate behavior under embedded constraints like limited RAM and storage, intermittent connectivity
- Work with OEM partners (Panasonic Avionics, Thales, Safran/RAVE, Viasat) to validate integrations and platform compliance.
- Reproduce defects, run root cause analysis, and file reports a developer can act on without a follow-up meeting.
Required
- Strong Linux fundamentals. Fluent at the command line, comfortable without a GUI, at home on a target system over SSH
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 2–5 years in QA or test engineering, with real time spent on embedded or resource-constrained devices, not only web or desktop.
Why This Role
The bugs you catch here can't be hotfixed in an afternoon. The work is technical, tangible, and it flies.

QA Engineer Jobs in Irvine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a qa engineer job in Irvine?
Irvine's strongest qa engineer hiring comes from medical device companies, enterprise software firms, and cybersecurity vendors clustered in the Irvine Spectrum and around the UC Irvine research corridor. Candidates with hands-on automation experience using Selenium, Cypress, or Appium stand out, as do those with familiarity with FDA software validation requirements, which matter heavily to Irvine's large medtech employer base. Targeting companies in those districts directly gives you the best foothold.
Which companies hire qa engineers in Irvine?
Irvine qa engineer roles are posted by TP-LINK, Betria Interactive, and SGS and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Irvine attracts a mix of mid-size technology product companies, global medical device manufacturers, and well-funded software startups, all of which maintain dedicated QA teams.
Are there remote qa engineer jobs in Irvine?
Yes, though availability depends on the role type. Software and automation QA work is highly remote-compatible, while hardware, medical device, and on-site lab testing roles typically require in-person presence. About 13% of qa engineer openings tied to Irvine are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with software-focused QA roles at companies in the Irvine Spectrum driving most of that flexibility.
How can I get a qa engineer job in Irvine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Irvine is targeting junior QA analyst or QA technician roles at the city's many mid-size software companies, where teams are small enough that entry-level contributors gain broad exposure quickly. Irvine's medtech firms also hire QA associates for documentation and validation support, which requires precision but not deep engineering experience. Building a portfolio of personal test plans or contributing to open-source projects helps candidates stand out in a market that rewards demonstrated initiative.
Which industries hire the most qa engineers in Irvine?
Most qa engineer openings in Irvine sit in Technology & Software, Education, and Medical Devices, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Irvine's concentration of FDA-regulated medical device firms, alongside its dense cluster of enterprise software and cybersecurity companies, makes the city one of the more specialized QA markets in Southern California.
