Continue developing technical knowledge and clinical skills throughout the internship experience.
Collaborative Teamwork
This role involves working closely with Radiology staff and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to provide safe, compassionate, and efficient diagnostic imaging services while contributing to a supportive and collaborative work environment.

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in the English language.
Ability to operate office equipment.

Tips for Your Radiologic Technologist Internship Search
Apply in the fall for summer clinical rotations
Large hospital networks and imaging centers lock in their summer intern cohorts months before the start date, often through formal affiliation agreements with radiologic technology programs. Start your search in September or October for the following summer. Smaller outpatient clinics and co-op programs post closer to their start dates, so a year-round search catches both cycles.
Build a clinical evidence file before you apply
At the intern stage, hiring teams look for documented proof of clinical exposure rather than paid work history. Compile a competency log, imaging procedure records from lab coursework, or a case study from a clinical simulation. Having something tangible to share in an application or interview gives radiologic technologist recruiters a concrete basis for evaluation.
Work your campus network and apply directly at the same time
Your radiologic technology program director and clinical coordinator often know which imaging departments recruit from your school before roles post publicly. Campus health career fairs surface structured affiliation programs tied directly to your program. Applying directly to smaller outpatient clinics and specialty imaging centers running their own cohorts runs alongside campus activity and widens the pool you reach.
Practice patient interaction and positioning scenarios out loud
Radiologic technologist intern interviews often include scenario-based questions on patient positioning, radiation safety protocols, and equipment operation. Practice answering these out loud and walk through your reasoning step by step, since interviewers weight how you think through a clinical situation as much as whether you land the right answer.
Target structured clinical internship programs at larger health systems
Major hospital systems and regional imaging networks run cohort-based radiologic technology intern programs designed to train candidates new to clinical practice. These programs offer supervised rotations across multiple modalities and recruit early in the academic year. Identify the programs that accept candidates from your accredited program and apply in the first posting window.
Set your work-type filter before you start
On-site roles are 100% of the radiologic technologist internships listed here. Decide what you can commit to before you start sorting through openings, then filter by location and work type upfront so you are only reviewing roles you can actually take.
Radiologic Technologist Internships: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a radiologic technologist internship?
Lead with coursework and clinical skills rather than work history, since hiring teams expect limited experience at the intern level. A documented portfolio of imaging procedures, case studies from labs, or completed competency records gives recruiters something concrete to assess. Pair direct applications with campus career fairs, where radiologic technology program recruiters often move faster for students they meet in person.
Can a radiologic technologist internship turn into a full-time job?
Many employers extend return offers to strong interns, but conversion is never guaranteed. What drives it for radiologic technologist interns is performance on real patient workflows and imaging tasks, whether the department has open headcount, and how early you ask about return-offer timelines. Treat every rotation as an audition without counting on the outcome.
When should I apply for radiologic technologist internships?
Earlier than most students expect. Large hospital systems and imaging networks recruit summer interns the preceding fall, often through formal clinical affiliation agreements with radiology programs. Smaller outpatient clinics and co-op positions post closer to their start dates, so openings appear year-round and a rolling search is worth maintaining.
Are radiologic technologist internships paid?
Most professional radiologic technologist internships in the United States are paid. Compensation varies by employer size, care setting, and location, and listings show pay where the employer discloses it. Unpaid clinical rotations tied to an accredited program are a separate category from employer-sponsored internships and follow different rules set by the program.
What should a radiologic technologist internship resume include?
Lead with projects and clinical lab work rather than employment history. List two or three documented clinical or imaging projects with the modalities covered, equipment used, and where reviewers can see the work, such as a competency log, case study, or program portfolio. Add relevant coursework in anatomy, positioning, and radiation safety, and keep the resume to one page.
Are there remote radiologic technologist internships?
Yes. Remote and hybrid roles make up 0% of the radiologic technologist internship listings here, with the rest on-site. These tend to focus on imaging informatics, radiology administration, or health IT rather than hands-on clinical work. Remote cohorts fill fast, so apply early and filter by work type to see available openings.
Can international students get radiologic technologist internships?
Yes. F-1 students can intern through CPT while enrolled or through OPT work authorization after finishing a degree, and the employer does not have to file anything for either, so many companies are open to international interns. Confirm your eligibility and timing with your university's international student office before accepting an offer.
