Registered Nurse Jobs in Pittsburgh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a registered nurse job in Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh's largest hiring concentration is in Oakland, home to UPMC and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center facilities, and Shadyside, where specialty and outpatient care is dense. Health systems, academic medical centers, and VA facilities drive the most openings. Candidates who hold ACLS or specialty certifications and have experience in high-acuity settings stand out in this market, where critical care and surgical roles are consistently active.
Which companies hire registered nurses in Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh registered nurse roles are posted by Allegheny Health Network, UPMC, and Voyage Health and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Pittsburgh's employer mix leans heavily toward large integrated health systems and teaching hospitals, which post across a wide range of units and specialties throughout the year.
Are there remote registered nurse jobs in Pittsburgh?
Yes, though remote work is uncommon for most registered nurse roles since direct patient care requires an on-site presence. About 11% of registered nurse openings tied to Pittsburgh are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which reflects the limited but real subset of roles available. In Pittsburgh, the most remote-compatible positions tend to be in utilization review, case management, and telehealth nursing.
How can I get a registered nurse job in Pittsburgh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Pittsburgh is applying to new-graduate residency programs at UPMC, Allegheny Health Network, or Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Healthcare System, which are specifically designed to onboard early-career nurses. Medical-surgical and telemetry units at community hospitals in the Pittsburgh metro also hire new graduates regularly. Completing a clinical rotation at a Pittsburgh facility and expressing interest in permanent placement before graduation gives candidates a meaningful edge locally.

Pittsburgh registered nurse roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Insurance, and Medical Devices, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Pittsburgh's status as a regional hub for academic medicine and specialty care, anchored by its major health systems and research hospitals, keeps demand across those sectors consistently high.
