Registered Nurse Jobs in Philadelphia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a registered nurse job in Philadelphia?
Philadelphia's academic medical centers, large health systems, and community hospitals drive the bulk of local hiring, so targeting those employer types directly gives you the strongest footing. University City concentrates several major teaching hospitals, while Center City and Northeast Philadelphia hold a dense mix of specialty clinics and long-term care facilities. Candidates with ICU, emergency, or surgical experience stand out in this market, as do those with experience in underserved or urban patient populations.
Which companies hire registered nurses in Philadelphia?
Companies currently hiring registered nurses in Philadelphia include Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health, Temple University Health System, and BAYADA Home Health Care, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Philadelphia's employer mix leans heavily toward large academic health systems, federally qualified health centers, and regional specialty networks anchored in and around the city.
Are there remote registered nurse jobs in Philadelphia?
Yes, though remote opportunities are limited for registered nurses because most roles require direct patient care. About 7% of registered nurse openings tied to Philadelphia are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, covering roles where hands-on care is not required. In Philadelphia, the remote-accessible portion of the role is most common in telehealth triage, case management, utilization review, and care coordination positions at health plans and large systems.
How can I get a registered nurse job in Philadelphia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Philadelphia is through a new-graduate or residency program at one of the city's large academic medical centers, which are among the most active local employers of new nurses. Community hospitals and federally qualified health centers in North and West Philadelphia also hire entry-level nurses and often offer structured mentorship. Completing clinical rotations at Philadelphia institutions builds familiarity that hiring managers notice, and pursuing certifications in high-demand areas like med-surg or pediatrics strengthens applications significantly.
Which industries hire the most registered nurses in Philadelphia?
Philadelphia registered nurse roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Agriculture & Farming, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Philadelphia's dense cluster of research universities, teaching hospitals, and specialty health networks makes it one of the more active mid-Atlantic markets for clinical nursing across multiple care settings.
