Licensed Therapist Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a licensed therapist in Pennsylvania?
Becoming a licensed therapist in Pennsylvania requires completing a master's degree in counseling, social work, or a related field, then applying through the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors. Most paths lead to either the Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker credential, each requiring supervised post-graduate hours and a board-approved examination. Many candidates begin working under a Conditional License while completing their supervised hours.
Which companies hire licensed therapists in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring licensed therapists in Pennsylvania right now include Ivy Rehab Network, LifeStance Health, and Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's large integrated health systems, community mental health organizations, and school-based behavioral health programs generate especially consistent openings across the state.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most licensed therapist jobs?
Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Harrisburg have the most licensed therapist openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia leads because of its concentration of academic medical centers, community behavioral health systems, and school district contracts, while Pittsburgh's strength comes from large health systems like UPMC, and Allentown reflects growing demand in the Lehigh Valley driven by expanding outpatient and community mental health infrastructure.
Are there remote licensed therapist jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most clinical fields. About 60% of licensed therapist openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how well telehealth adapted to therapy work during and after the pandemic. Individual and group talk therapy, particularly outpatient counseling and substance use treatment, are the areas where remote and hybrid arrangements are most common.
How can I get hired as a licensed therapist in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for positions that accept candidates working under a Pennsylvania Conditional License while completing supervised hours. Large Pennsylvania employers such as UPMC and community mental health agencies affiliated with the county behavioral health system regularly hire associate-level or provisional therapists for supervised roles in outpatient and residential settings. A completed master's degree, a submitted or pending licensure application, and demonstrated placement experience from a clinical internship all strengthen early applications considerably.
Where can I find and apply to licensed therapist jobs in Pennsylvania?

Find roles that fit your specialty, licensure status, and preferred location, then apply directly to each employer through the listing.
