Licensed Therapist Jobs in Pittsburgh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a licensed therapist job in Pittsburgh?
Focus your search on Pittsburgh's largest hiring clusters: UPMC's behavioral health network, Allegheny Health Network's outpatient programs, community mental health centers in the Hill District and East End, and private group practices in Shadyside and Squirrel Hill. Candidates with experience in trauma-informed care, DBT, or adolescent mental health move faster through hiring here. Tailoring your application to each employer's population and model makes a measurable difference in a market this concentrated.
Which companies hire licensed therapists in Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh licensed therapist roles are posted by Net Health, Open Space Counseling, Consulting & Wellness, and Transformations Care Network and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. The local market is anchored by large health systems alongside community-based nonprofits and outpatient group practices that serve Pittsburgh's diverse neighborhoods.
Are there remote licensed therapist jobs in Pittsburgh?
Yes, though teletherapy availability depends heavily on the setting, as direct clinical roles typically require some in-person presence while certain care coordination and supervisory functions transfer well to remote work. About 69% of licensed therapist openings tied to Pittsburgh are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting continued telehealth adoption since the pandemic. Outpatient counseling and EAP-contracted positions tend to offer the most scheduling flexibility locally.
How can I get a licensed therapist job in Pittsburgh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Pittsburgh is through pre-licensure associate or resident clinician roles at community mental health centers such as those operating in the North Side, Homewood, and Hazelwood neighborhoods, which routinely hire candidates working toward LPC or LCSW credentials. AmeriCorps-affiliated behavioral health programs and school-based therapy contracts through Pittsburgh Public Schools also bring in early-career clinicians. Strong clinical practicum hours from a CACREP- or CSWE-accredited program and willingness to work with high-need populations strengthen your candidacy significantly.
Which industries hire the most licensed therapists in Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh licensed therapist roles concentrate in Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pittsburgh's identity as a major medical and university hub, anchored by institutions in Oakland, sustains consistent demand for behavioral health professionals across inpatient, outpatient, and academic settings.
