Tips for Your Licensed Therapist Job Search
Tailor your resume to licensure level
Employers scan quickly for your license type, LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or LCPC. List your full credential abbreviation, state of licensure, and expiration date in your header so hiring managers can confirm eligibility before reading further.
Document your clinical supervision hours
If you're pursuing full licensure, spell out your completed and remaining supervised hours on your resume. Employers offering supervision benefits need to know exactly where you stand so they can assess fit for their own staffing model.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists licensed therapist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter by modality and population served
Job postings vary widely in the client populations and treatment modalities required. Target roles that name your actual training, whether that's CBT with adolescents, trauma-focused care with adults, or family systems work, rather than applying broadly and explaining fit later.
Prepare a clinical case presentation
Many behavioral health employers include a case conceptualization exercise in their interview process. Practice articulating your diagnostic reasoning, treatment planning approach, and theoretical orientation out loud so your clinical thinking comes through clearly under interview conditions.
Negotiate caseload size, not just pay
Before accepting an offer, ask about the expected weekly caseload and how administrative documentation time is counted. A lower caseload with protected documentation hours can mean better sustainability than a higher-paying role with 30-plus billable hours expected weekly.
Licensed Therapist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most licensed therapists?
The companies hiring the most licensed therapists right now include LifeStance Health, Ivyrehab Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy & Speech-Language Pathology, Pllc, and Ivy Rehab Network, with the largest share of openings in Illinois, California, and Virginia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Telehealth platforms and large outpatient behavioral health networks tend to post the highest volume of openings consistently.
How many licensed therapist jobs are remote?
About 28% of licensed therapist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though availability varies significantly by license type and state of practice. Telehealth-specific roles and roles at digital mental health platforms are the most likely to be fully remote, while positions at inpatient, school-based, or community health settings are typically in person.
How do you become a licensed therapist?
You earn a master's degree in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or a closely related field, completing all required practicum and internship hours during your program. After graduating, you accumulate post-degree supervised clinical hours under a qualified supervisor, then pass your state licensure exam. Requirements for supervised hours and approved exam vary by license type and state, so check your state licensing board directly for exact thresholds.
Can you get a licensed therapist job with little or no experience?
Yes, entry-level licensed therapist roles exist specifically for candidates who are newly licensed or completing their supervised hours toward full licensure. Community mental health centers, federally qualified health centers, and group practices that offer built-in supervision are the most common employers for early-career therapists. Highlighting your practicum population, your clinical training settings, and any specialized coursework in your resume helps you compete effectively without years of independent practice behind you.
What does the licensed therapist interview process look like?
Most employers begin with a phone screen focused on your licensure status, clinical experience, and schedule availability. A second-round interview typically involves a hiring manager and sometimes a clinical director, covering your therapeutic orientation, documentation practices, and how you handle crisis situations. Some organizations add a case conceptualization exercise or a panel interview with clinical peers before extending an offer.
Where can I find and apply to licensed therapist jobs?
You can find and apply to licensed therapist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search through available roles, find the ones that match your license type, clinical focus, and preferred setting, and apply directly to each listing that fits.
