Licensed Therapist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a licensed therapist in Texas?
You earn licensure in Texas through either the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors for the LPC credential or the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners for the LCSW, depending on your degree track. Both paths require a master's degree in a qualifying clinical field, supervised post-degree hours completed under a board-approved supervisor, and a passing score on the relevant national licensure exam before the full license is issued.
Which companies hire licensed therapists in Texas?
Employers hiring licensed therapists in Texas right now include LifeStance Health, HealthPRO Heritage, and Select Medical, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's scale and mix of large integrated health systems, state-funded community mental health centers, and expanding group practice networks means hiring activity tends to stay steady regardless of season.
Which Texas cities have the most licensed therapist jobs?
Houston, Plano, and Dallas consistently post the most licensed therapist openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth lead due to the concentration of large hospital systems, federally qualified health centers, and behavioral health networks headquartered there, while Austin's rapid population growth has driven substantial expansion in both private practice groups and outpatient mental health clinics.
Are there remote licensed therapist jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most clinical fields. About 28% of licensed therapist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how widely telehealth has been adopted across outpatient and private practice settings. Individual therapy, case management consultations, and some supervisory roles translate most cleanly to fully remote arrangements, while group therapy and school-based positions typically remain on-site.
How can I get hired as a licensed therapist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a supervised associate-level position, which Texas boards formally recognize as the LPC-Associate or LMSW designation, allowing you to practice under an approved supervisor while accruing required hours. Large Texas employers such as the Metrocare Services network in Dallas and the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD in Houston regularly hire associate licensees into structured supervision programs. Targeting community mental health centers and school district counseling departments broadens your options further, and obtaining your associate license before applying gives you a clear competitive edge over candidates still completing degrees.
Where can I find and apply to licensed therapist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to licensed therapist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the listings, find roles that fit your license level and specialty, and apply directly.
