Eastern Carolina Veterinary Referral is seeking a Veterinary Rehabilitation Therapist to join our growing Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Department. In this role, you'll work closely with our Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Specialist to help patients recover from injury, surgery, neurologic conditions, and mobility challenges through individualized rehabilitation programs. You'll provide hands-on therapy, monitor patient progress, educate clients, and play a critical role in improving patient function, comfort, and quality of life.
This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about rehabilitation medicine, committed to exceptional patient care, and enjoys building strong relationships with clients while working within a collaborative specialty hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer prescribed rehabilitation therapies and treatment plans developed by the Rehabilitation Specialist.
- Perform therapeutic exercises, manual therapies, hydrotherapy, and therapeutic modalities including laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, shockwave therapy, and other rehabilitation techniques.
- Monitor patient progress and response to treatment, communicating observations and recommendations to the Rehabilitation Specialist.
- Utilize low-stress handling techniques to ensure patient comfort, safety, and positive therapy experiences.
- Assist with patient evaluations and recheck appointments as directed.
- Educate clients regarding treatment goals, expected outcomes, and patient progress.
- Demonstrate and instruct clients on home exercise programs and rehabilitation plans.
- Provide ongoing support and encouragement to clients throughout the rehabilitation process.
- Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely medical records for all rehabilitation sessions.
- Document patient responses, treatment modifications, and progress toward established goals.
- Collaborate with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and rehabilitation team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in rounds, case discussions, and team meetings.
- Assist with training and mentoring support staff, students, and interns as appropriate.
- Maintain rehabilitation equipment and treatment areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Ensure rehabilitation equipment is functioning properly and report maintenance concerns promptly.
- Follow all hospital safety and infection control protocols.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist (CCRT), Certified Canine Rehabilitation Assistant (CCRA), or equivalent rehabilitation certification preferred.
- Experience in veterinary rehabilitation, physical rehabilitation, sports medicine, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of canine anatomy, biomechanics, and rehabilitation principles.
- Experience utilizing therapeutic modalities including underwater treadmill, laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, and shockwave therapy.
- Excellent communication, client education, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining close collaboration with the specialty team.
- Passion for patient-centered care and rehabilitation outcomes.
- Fluent English skills (speaking and reading) are required; multilingual abilities are a plus.
- Ability to safely lift and assist patients up to 50 pounds with assistance when necessary.
