Blue River Technology is based in Santa Clara, CA.
Summary
We are seeking a highly technical, collaborative Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM) to guide the evolution of our core technology platforms. This team is responsible for building the robotics engineering foundations that enable our autonomy and automation programs to build, train, and operate intelligent machines at scale. In this role, you will connect advanced machine learning with scalable infrastructure. We value thoughtful program ownership and trajectory facilitation over passive administration or information brokerage. The ideal candidate is energetic and ready to learn quickly, thrives in highly collaborative spaces, and is ready to operate as a deep owner of high-impact program outcomes.
- Employment Type: Full-Time
- Work Location: Remote in the United States
- Visa sponsorship is possible for this position.
Job Responsibilities
A combination, not necessarily all-inclusive, of the following:
- Serve as the outcome and domain owner for a portfolio of technical programs; be prepared to bootstrap ambitious, ambiguous, large-scale strategic initiatives into clear, structured execution paths.
- Weave complex, cross-organizational interdependencies into a singular, harmonious program strategy that unifies diverse engineering groups.
- Evangelize the program's strategy across the core platform engineering teams and the robotics programs that use our foundational tooling.
- Replace administrative status updates with an authoritative, bottom-up framework that clearly articulates milestones, sequences, and critical paths to executive leadership.
- Act as a high-velocity roadblock smasher, using your program tooling to identify engineering bottlenecks and re-chart course as necessary to guarantee high-quality, on-time program delivery.
- Build the connective tissue between cross-functional groups, ensuring deep understanding, operational symmetry, and goal alignment across teams.
- Shape and contribute deeply to strategic roadmaps for developing our robotics platform.
- Work cross-functionally to develop best practices and development processes in a dynamic environment, driving impact through the deployment of key initiatives and garnering adoption of those processes.
Required Experience and Skills
- At least 7+ years of experience driving complex, cross-functional technical programs.
- Strong track record of building alignment across diverse technical teams without formal authority.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex architectural concepts into clear, actionable program milestones.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering or related technical discipline; or equivalent practical experience.
- Proficiency with agile project management tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with large-scale systems.
- Excellent communication, time management, and prioritization skills.
- Systems design or technical architecture experience, with the ability to understand and contribute to high-level system design discussions.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Background in machine learning, computer vision, and/or robotics.
- Experience managing data science, machine learning, computer vision, robotics, or autonomy programs.
- Experience with cloud-based full-stack engineering development, including frontend, backend, and infrastructure.

Tips for Your Remote Machine Learning Scientist Job Search
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote machine learning scientist openings from across the U.S. in one place, so you can find roles that match your skills and apply directly. Remote postings fill fast, so checking regularly and applying as soon as a strong fit appears gives you a real advantage.
Build a portfolio of reproducible experiments
Remote employers can't watch you work, so your code and notebooks do the talking. Host documented, reproducible experiments on GitHub that show your modeling decisions, not just final results. Clear commit histories and README files signal you can collaborate asynchronously on a distributed team.
Highlight async communication in your materials
Remote machine learning scientist roles require written communication that keeps distributed teammates aligned without meetings. Mention specific tools you've used, like GitHub pull requests, Confluence, or Weights and Biases experiment logs, and describe how your documentation practices kept cross-functional teams informed on model development progress.
Target remote-first companies in your research
Companies built as remote-first from the start have the infrastructure and culture to support distributed machine learning scientists effectively. Look for firms with fully distributed engineering and research teams, because those organizations hire remote scientists regularly and have onboarding processes designed for async work.
Prepare for async-style remote interviews
Many remote employers add a take-home or asynchronous component to machine learning scientist interviews, such as a Jupyter notebook exercise or a written technical design question. Practice explaining your modeling choices in clear, structured prose so your written reasoning is as strong as your verbal answers.
Remote Machine Learning Scientist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote machine learning scientist job?
Focus on companies that operate distributed research teams, because those employers are already set up to manage remote scientists and actively hire them. Remote hiring managers screen hard for self-direction, clear written communication, and the ability to document experiments so teammates in different time zones can follow your reasoning. A public portfolio of reproducible work, strong Python and ML framework proficiency, and experience collaborating through async tools like GitHub and Confluence give candidates a clear edge.
Which companies hire remote machine learning scientists?
Companies hiring remote machine learning scientists right now include CVS Health, Alvarez & Marsal, and Netflix, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Remote-first technology firms and distributed teams in software, healthcare, and financial services are among the most consistent hirers of machine learning scientists in fully remote roles.
Can you get a remote machine learning scientist job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level machine learning scientist roles are harder to land because employers expect you to work independently from day one with minimal hand-holding. Smaller remote-first startups and research-oriented companies are more open to early-career candidates who can show original project work, published or open-source contributions, and strong written documentation skills that signal you'll function well on a distributed team.
Do you need a degree for remote machine learning scientist jobs?
Usually, but not always. Most remote machine learning scientist postings list a graduate degree as a preference, but remote employers increasingly weigh demonstrated skills, reproducible research, and real-world results alongside formal credentials. A strong portfolio of model development work, peer-reviewed contributions, or verifiable production deployments can offset the absence of an advanced degree for the right role.
Which industries hire the most remote machine learning scientists?
The sectors hiring the most remote machine learning scientists are Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Those industries rely on distributed research and engineering teams that are structured to support scientists working fully remotely from the start.
