Entry Level Research Technician Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level research technician job?
Employers hiring at the entry level look for hands-on lab experience, even from coursework or internships, along with familiarity with standard techniques like pipetting, data collection, and equipment calibration. A degree in biology, chemistry, or a related life science is the most common baseline. Highlighting any research project, undergraduate thesis, or volunteer lab work in your application gives you a concrete edge over candidates with no bench experience.
Which companies hire entry level research technicians?
Companies hiring entry level research technicians right now include University of Miami, Creighton University, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. At this level, hiring tends to come from academic medical centers, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, contract research organizations, and government laboratories that routinely bring on new graduates to support ongoing studies.
Are there remote entry level research technician jobs?
Yes, though most research technician roles require in-person lab work, some data-focused or analytical positions do offer flexibility. About 6% of entry level research technician openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, typically covering roles in data entry, research coordination, or computational analysis rather than wet-lab or specimen-handling positions.
Are these new grad research technician jobs?
Yes, the listings on this page include new grad, recent graduate, and junior research technician roles. A posting is new-grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internship or coursework in place of full-time work history, or lists a portfolio or capstone project as a valid qualification. If a job description mentions training provided or degree required but no minimum years of experience, it is almost always open to new grad applicants.
Which industries hire the most entry level research technicians?
Entry Level research technician roles concentrate in Education, Science & Research, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive entry level hiring because they run high volumes of ongoing studies and rely on junior technicians for sample processing, data collection, and routine assay work that does not yet require senior-level expertise.
